Default whats vtec controller do? (mini me)

What exactly is it for? Would it benefit my car? My friend told me that since I did mini me, the higher compression would benefit better from getting one?

its to controls when vtec kicks in by rpm usually people run them with ecu's that are non vtec so they dont have to buy another ecu. just run a chipped ecu but if u cant afford a new ecu or chipped ecu this could be a temp fix if u dont have a vtec ecu. if u really want one i have a buddy club vtec controller like this one : http://cgi.ebay.com/Buddyclub-VTEC-c...item35ae2dff87

i hardly used it but when i did use it it worked perfectly fine. if ur intrested u can have it for 40 bux shipped.
only thing about these is u can't adjust fuel or ignition timing just change when vtec kicks in. that's why chipped ecu's are more preferred as u could adjust all these when tuning. they also Apexi makes a VAFC that allows u to change vtec activation by rpm and adjust fuel by tricking the ecu from the map sensor that more or less air is entering the motor adding and subtracting fuel. you can check out ebay if ur looking for one of these.

no sense in changing where vtec engages then honda has it set at 5k because thats where it makes power. if u lowered it any u may not see any gains and if u did it would be too little to worry about.

What am I missing? What makes the activation of the VTEC so noticeable? I have a 98 D16-8Y in a Civic EX 2 door. It runs like a scalded dog at all time (except from dead stop. Should the activation be that noticeable?

On MOST D series and I stress the word most, you can't hear or feel vtec at all. I have ridden in a few that it is noticeable. As stated above no need to change vtec engagement point unless you do extensive motor work and get a full tune.

Thanks EG...I thought I was missing something. I just got back into Hondas again, I used to race an old CVCC in the SCCA and I was pretty dominant. I had a lot of engine mods at the time. I got this for a daily, has over 190K on it and I love it. Really thinking about another racer.
