Default VTEC light ?

I read on a previous board that there is a such a thing as a VTEC light . that lights when a VTEC engine reaches its VTEC point , How is a vtec light wired in on a SOHC d1678 motor , I am assuming the wire for this light has to be wired in either at the VTEC silinoid or the ECU , Which is better? Or what is a better set up ?

Yea, you are right, all you have to do is run a wire from either the solinoid or tap into the wire that goes into the ECU. I ran mine from the ECU cause it's easier to hide it under the dash and it'll look cleaner. Both ways will work. Then just get a LED from radio shack and your set. I put the light in my dash in one of the empty indicator lights slot. Get a clear transpearancy sheet (that they use for overheads) and print up a with whatever color you want. There's some instructions on the web somewhere, if I run across it, I'll post it.

Wired up either way it will work but why??? I don't know about you, but I don't need a light to know when the VTEC kicks in, I can feel it

Again...you guys are all boring...I think it's cool..do it.

Do any of you remember when you were in..say high school. I had an '88 Accord and not only did they not make many parts for it, I couldn't really afford performance stuff for it. If it had vtec, I probably would have done this.
You get to "take apart" your car..which is fun even in high school..and it's cheap..and it's novel.

I hope its' fun having a plain car..whew..look at my plain car.
O.K. I wouldn't do it on my Type R, but on my Civic...hell yeah I would.

B20: I never said that. I'm just stating I think it's fun to also have a fun ride, not just a fast plain ride. I have the best of both worlds a fast modded plain R..and a modded fun civic! I love the civic..I feel much less "pressure" to do this or do that..
I'm advocating doing what you want with your civics..have fun..don't keep it plain if you don't want to. I didn't say: Hey..everyone here put VTEC Lights on...ITS THE COOLEST!

Thanks B20..I just want people to do their thing. Even if it's building up Civics to Roll R's all day long..I'll give you thumbs up on the way by, because you've put a lot of time in your ride..or slapped a turbo on

Nice! I wish I had 5 lugs on my civic..that way I could use my race tires on both cars...Oh well, just one more set of race tires in the garage!

Keep up the good work!

And I have an NSX key for my civic! Yeah it's stupid, no it didn't make the car go faster, but you'd be surprised how many passengers notice it! It's weird..but funny! I like it.

Not the fancy $70 Aluminum NSX key either, the "cheap" plastic $5 one.

OK One of yall hit it on the head of the nail , Right now I am umemployed , hopefully in a week I will have a new job ((crossing fingers)) , But doing this gives me a chance to get a better understand of my car and how it works . As far as the ITR guy , Why do we all bash each other ? Honda , Acura , Acura , Honda , We might all look different and have different badges but we are all from the same company . Sorry if I sound like a tree hugger or something but it just doesn't make sence . The people we should be laying smack down and going against are the Toyota , Mazada , VW people etc etc . Yeah its fun to compete against people and so on but I think it should be put in different light when its the "Immediate family" The Vtec light is just another thing I want added to my car that not many (that I have seen ) have . Hell even my EX has SOHC VTEC stickers that look stock but aren't bragging something it doesn't have , I ain't about to put SIR or SI or TYPE R on it . Those titles belong to the cars that have the guts to make those emblems true . Just my 2 cents PS thanks for the links and advice (from those that weren't hattin)

You2Envious: Please re-read more carefully...I'm not bashing..B20 thought so too, read his post, he's cool with it now. There is absolutely no bashing. I have BOTH Honda Civic AND Acura Type R. I love both. I even work for Honda..Honda during the day all day long..honda at night on the message board. I wouldn't call that bashing.

Ok my typing skills fell short . What I was trying to come across with , is the ongoing thing I normally see with Acura owners and Honda Owners . I have encountered guys that refused to thing their car was a honda even though the damn thing had a friggen H ON THE VALVE COVER . I wasn't singling you or him out , I was just making a general observation . Sorry

No prob
I understand what you are saying!

Another thing that cracks me up is people not knowing Acura's are Honda..maybe it's not so obvious..but its' still funny. My neighbor (she's old) asked me If I was going to get a Honda now that I worked for them (referring to the R)...I told her know, that Acura is a Honda..and she's like "ohhhh".
