VTEC light
Would it be possible to use the VTEC signal wire on the ecu to hook up a LED to go on when VTEC is engaged? Just wondering, I'm kinda bored and I want something cheap/fun/easy to do. I feel depressed when I don't work on my car.
i was wondering the same thing, but i was also wanting to know why my 97 gsr doesn't even have the vtec light???
and yes you can splice off that wire to make an LED...some bastards sell instructions on ebay for like ten bucks..but i know that people on here have done it before.
yea im admit i had done it...i was a ricer, i had the vtec light light up everytime i hit vtec. i got the light for a couple bucks when gettin my ww kit. what the hell, it wasnt that bad but its off now. theres a wire that you splice in the passenger side panel by the floor mat. its simple but i forgot which wire it is.

I've got exactly what you're talking about.. But the weird thing is that it only lights up when the secondaries come in.. Not sure if that's what it's suppose to do or not.. But yeah, you can hear VTEC and see the light go on.. I still remember how to do it So if you're interested, let me know.. It's very easy.. Later....

Well what I did was a little different. I got the idea from "pgthao".. All I did was I looked for the VTEC Solenoid and unplugged it in the engine bay. Next I looked for the colored wire that goes from the solenoid to the ECU. Then I matched the wires and spliced into it. From there I bought a 6V bulb from the radioshack along with the piece that it screws onto. Next I ran the wiring so that it would go underneath the glove department in the center console and through the sliding spot for the fan switch. I left it sitting there. And from there on, whenever I hit the secondaries, it brighter than m*tha at night.. Lights up the whole car.. Hope that helps.. Later..
Check this out, it lists the part #'s from Radio Shack. I already made it, I've just got to put it in now. These are instructions for a Civic SI, but I'm told that the VTEC wire is the same color on Integras. Hope this helps. http://www.hazone.com/default.htm?howto/mtrmount.htm
is the vtec wire the same for ODBI and ODBII?
I have OBDI.Also...does it turn on when the secondaries hit or when VTEC engages? I'd rather have it when the secondaries open up becasue the extra noise coupled with the light coming on would be pretty neat I think...
does that really make sense? Connect it to the wire for the VTEC solenoid and you get the light when the secondary intake rnner solenoid switches?
Most likely someone is confusing the 2 solenoids on the install

I'm just interested in which wire carries the current that will turn on the light when the secondaries kick in. If anybody knows....I'd love to find out! Then I can just follow the rest of the instructions.
JDMfan.com has explicit directions. If you know which wire on the ECU is the one for the VTEC selenoid, im sure that you can splice that one. I highly suggest tapping the wire on the VTEC selenoid if u must do this... simply because the less u chop into the ECU wires, the better.
Also, i believe there was a reason to splice the wire entirely, not just tap it... but im not sure. check JDMFan.com

I dont think u need a VTEC light though... kinda goofy.

LS-VTEC 101
Actually I found out a new way to do the LS-VTEC conversion...
1. Forget about the whole VTEC head thing.. highly over rated.
2. Attach a wire to your ECU, and tag it "VTEC Light"
3. Put an LED on your dash, and put some masking tape next to it. that says "VTEC"
4. Then wire the LED to the ECU and a Microwave Oven..
Now, you saved urself 1500 bucks... and when the VTEC kicks in the light comes on and there is a nice "ding!" to let you know ur VTEC is working...
