So I was leaving my friends house today, the car was running fine, it was warmed up and everything, When I went to engage vtec, It cracked as loud as my buddy had on his open headers gsr, and the car was pulling hella weird.. its a 99 civic ex with a b18c swap, and chipped p28. It was running really strong yesterday.. what can be the issue? valve adjustment? anyone have this issue before on their b18c?

please be more specific than 'the car was pulling hella weird' or 'not pulling right.'

do you mean it sounded like vtak but had no power change?

was the car bogging or stumbling on acceleration in vtak?

i assumed having enough oil.. but let me just state from personal exp...

once i was low on vtak fluid and i could hear vtak engage but there was no power increase noticeable and a strange sound, almost like uh.... something was flapping around in the motor. i drove home easy and found i was low on oil.

the oil light doesn't come on unless the car is srsly low on oil either.. check your vtak fluid.

With that being said what do you mean your vtec cracked?

alright on Saturday, I ran my car at the track, was hitting low 15s an high 14s, an I was pushing it to the limits all day, and on Sunday morning everything ran smooth, and no problems or what ever. It was standing all day at my buddy's house, and around 9pm it ran fine, until it warmed up, I went to engage vtec, and it was as loud as when I had open headers on it, and the car barely reached 7k rpms, and it felt like it was gonna blow..

I changed my oil last Thursday, and there where no leaks or CEL, and the first thing I checked was the oil..

Im coming to a conclusion that its my catalytic converter that clogged, since I have 4-1 headers 2.5 in, and full 2.5in magnaflow exhaust system, and I have the stock cat on it still, for a long time.. Im dropping the cat today, and ill let you guys know..

Did anyone have this issue before? oh and in between 1-5k rpms the car is really quiet..

I know what my vtec sounds like lol, it engages, but the car pulls like sh**, from how it always pulled..

could def be the cat. Old built y7 I had exploaded the honey comb in the cat and the car barely wanted to go.

Just finished dropping the cat, and I cant even see through it(its clogged), and one of my o2 sensors wires were cut..

Im ordering a hi-flow cat, and gutting out this cat for now, until the hi-flow comes in.

That shouldn't be to costly of a fix. When I first read the title I thought you dropped a valve.

my vtak did that at one point on a b16, it didn't sound right and wouldn't pull any harder in vtak.

so did a clogged cat cause this?

(my vtak fluid was low and I added oil the problem went away. may or may not be relevant)

Hey, so I dropped the cat (two days ago) and i could even see through it, everything was broken up on the inside, I got my long flat head, and a sludge hammer, and fully gutted the cat out, and put the o2 sensor back, and everything else, and that night the car was running strong again took my buddys s2k again

So I think what the issue was that after my cat clogged, and when id go into high rpms, it would not let air to go through as fast, so all the pressure/noise kept building up in the headers, thats why vtec just kept getting louder..

Hope this will help other people out in the future!

that was my first idea..and yeah I ordered a HKS hi-flow cat $123..
