Please Help -Overheat issue (just swapd)
I have a 97 civic Lx 4dr Just did swap D16y7 like my last engine (legit comp tested engine) so im sure wire harness and all is good i replaced a s*** ton of fuses. My temp guage does not work, and soon as the car starts the engine gets hot FAST headers heat up, and radiator hoses get hot also and fan not kicking on. and of course CEL is on, and gives me random codes (7 long and 2 short,7 long 3 short...witch is Misfire LOL) and flashes on the srs light and not the cel light

Just because the light is on and coolant is hot, does that mnean theres an issue. You definitely need to know how hot and the gauge is the way to go. CEL's are your friend....sometimes.

fix your miss fire and test your fan switch. missing will cause the header to get very hot i have seen cats glow white hot form running on 2 cylinders for 3 blocks.

I'm just playin with ya though, just thought it was kinda pointless and rude
anyway, OP find a working cluster, and see if its ACTUALLY overheating.. hows your thermostat? you said you just swapped it, is there enough coolant in it? has the coolant system been bleed?

@Nickeg9ej1 THERE IS NO MISFIRE. they were random codes...lol cuz idle sounds good.
How do i know its overheating if temp guage not working, well it feels like a sauna after having the engine one for only 2 seconds and builds up....the hoses on the radiator are hot as hell... plenty of coolant did all that.
I just got my tester out and tested the fan switch, guage temp, and the sensor for radiator all the wires are good....must be bad sensors?????? how can all sensors be bad i dont get it.

Unburned fuel collects in the cat and burns inside of it, causing it to glow. This can also destroy the cat or clog it and you won't be able to start your car if it's bad enough.
It sounds to me like your wiring is screwed. Or maybe wrong year ECU or something? The part where you say it blinks on the SRS not the CEL made me think of that right away

Not sure what the plugs look like but are you sure all the plugs are going to the right sensors? Maybe your cluster took a ****? Just throwing out ideas

Re: Please Help -Overheat issue (just swapd)
1. Did the temp guage in the cluster work BEFORE the swap? Yes/no?
2. Did you burp the coolant system of all air? Yes/No?
3. Is your radiator fan kicking on? Yes/No?

3. Have you checked compression? Yes/No?
if your engine coolant sensor is not working, it cannot tell the ecu to kick on the rad fan... Jump the fan to the battery and see if it still get hot...

Well, how about we ask some very simple questions and NOT get indirect answers shall we?
1. Did the temp guage in the cluster work BEFORE the swap? Yes/no?
2. Did you burp the coolant system of all air? Yes/No?
3. Have you checked compression? Yes/No?

2.yes burped it put it in the head all that(done this many times)
3.compression is tested at the factory where i got it with a 30 day warranty 160comp(they cant sell without comp test). i drove it around felt good no idle problems just this lil delima with guage and overheating.
