VIN Location + Titliing
I'm looking at buying a hatchback from a guy that bought the car froma police impound auction he says. He said that the VIN is gone from the dash, the tag on the door is gone and the one on the firewall is scratched out. He has a clean title for it, but it can't be proved that it's for that car due to the VIN's being gone. Is the VIN anywhere else on the car? I'm in PA and i'm wondering if I can get a VIN reassinged to the car. Anyone know PA laws about this kinda thing. The car is about 20 min away, and is a good deal if i will be able to get it registered in the future. Any input on the location of the VIN ?

There is a VIN # on the tranny, stickers on body parts like fenders, trunk, etc.
Some have a serial # etched in the window glass, like windsheild and side windows.
If all numbers have been completely removed from the car, I wouldn't touch it with a 100 mile long pole.

Correct. you may want to contact honda and ask them. But if you cant find one then dnt touch the car, as a matter of fact if you have touched the car then you might want to go back and wipe your prints off of it.

I believe you can request new VIN tags from the BMV and/or Honda dealership with the owner's name, VIN for the car, and title. I personally wouldn't bother with it unless it has a swap or something of the like that makes it worth it.
As for VIN stockers on panels: I don't believe those started on Civics until 2001.

Re: (Jmunk)
Soo... you havent actually seen the car, its not from a dealer, its not from police... its just from a guy on Ebay who is selling that hatch with all the Vins scratched off or removed..... Close or not... Title or not.... without police verifying it... I can only say...
Take a pic and see if its someone's stolen hatch
Ebay car laundering lol

with something like that he probbaly has a r title which stands for repairable title its a title that u can register the car with if a car has been hit, stolen, water damage .etc. if you ever try to sell it you have to sell it with the R title and it's usally hard to do
sometimes the windows will be etched with the vin, and or the body panels might have a sticker on the inside or if the motor hasn't been swapped, or stolen go tlo honda and research the block serial #'s
