Vehicle Speed Sensor Error
Well just when i thought i'd gotten my mini me project complete now im getting a Code 17 - VSS error. Can anyone tell me some things that could give me this error? i have a 97 civic dx with a 98 ex head, IM and ECU. I checked the wiring and there doesnt appear to be any breaks in it, checked the Speedo and everything seems to be fine.
Could it be maybe the sensor just died out(the whole actual unit). Me and my friend pulled it and turned the car to on(but not the engine on). My friend spun it and the speedo didn't move, he said that should of gotten some reaction out of it if the unit was good? Is there anyway short of having my friend come over and pulling his out and trying it on my car to see if its the sensor or the wires?
Just a few days ago the speedo was working fine, now only the tach moves and same with gas/temp gauge. Speedo just stays at 0
help me!

Re: Vehicle Speed Sensor Error (devonic)
Same thing happened to me. Mine had actually broke. I replaced it and problem solved. I guess you could check the wires with a tester to see if there getting power.

Re: Vehicle Speed Sensor Error (CIVICVTI2)
ok like a normal voltmeter should work? but would touching the meter to the wires actually work if the car isn't moving? i guess i can try jacking up the car like the helms book said and getting my friend to rotate the right front tire i believe it said and see if i get any pulse. theres 3 wires from the VSS, only one goes to the ecu, blue/white, and the other 2 appear to go into 2 jumpers under the intake manifold that appears to just be a ground.
i swear my car is cursed, did yours just stop working one day? and if mine is broke i hope my friend who works at honda can come through with the hookup
got 23 days to get it working right

Re: Vehicle Speed Sensor Error (devonic)
Yah man I was driving along and all of a sudden the speedo went all crazy jumping up and down then just stopped completly.
I would suggest putting the front whells of the ground and testing it that way.

ok another quick question
on a 97 dx wire harness, is the wire for the VSS in the exact same spot as it is on the EX, since im hooking it up into a EX Ecu? im pretty sure there in the same spot, why would honda move them, but just making sure im not mistaken.

Re: Vehicle Speed Sensor Error (devonic)
also whats the procedure for testing it by spinning the tire?
jack the front up and spin the front right tire right? does the car have to be on(engine on) or just turned to the on position(engine not on)

another quick question
i adjusted my throttle cable, i have a Dx cable which is longer than the Ex throttle cable so i had to adjust it cause whenever i could give it gas it would hesitate for 2-3 seconds before it decided to go. could moving the cable around somehow caused the vss to stop functioning or no?
