Valve Lash/Adjustment when & how
As many of you know I have a built D series on boost. I have never done a valve lash on it, although when I originally had the motor built I had the head cleaned and I asked them to do a adjustment although I dont know if they did.
When do I do a valve lash? Because I think my head is vibrating too much recently. Is this a sign that I need to adjust the valves?
And how do I go about doing this? Thanks.

u know u need your valves adjusted when theres a tapping sound comming from ur head...if you had ur head taken off to be cleaned up, i cant imagen them putting it back togeather without doing an adjustment ... anyway, as to how to do it.... get the lash specs from (a sticker)on ur hood or online ... then buy a set of feeler gauges and either buy a valve adjustment tool or u can use a wrench and (flat head)screw driver.. take ur valve cover off and use the screwdriver and wrench to loosen the valve tappits on the arms , then use the feeler gauge to check clearances. once the clearance is correct u hold the screw diver firmly, and tighten the nut with the wrench..recheck clearance after adjustment to be sure u held the flat head tight enough do all of the tapits (intake and exaust clearances are different ) and then put it back togeather and start it ...it may need to be readjusted after it goes through a few heat exchanges but its simple to do...

Re: Valve Lash/Adjustment when & how
you need:
a set of feeler gauges
10mm box wrench
flat head screw driver
and I think a 17mm socket to turn the crank shaft
some pics to help
but if your head is vibrating I doubt its the valve lash. adjusting the valves will make the engine breath and exhale better.

ok so where can I find the specs? And the "feeler gauges" are those little "sticks" with the different sizes correct?
And I had my head cleaned and polished over 15k Miles ago. And I have a mild cam, if that makes a difference.
Also once you loosen it, how do you physically adjust it?

get a fsm for your car/ motor or search online for your motor codes(ex. d16z6 valve lash), if you dont have the sticker under your hood that tells u what plugs and specs to use for ur motor , you can get the feeler gauges at almost any parts store for like $8for a set ....for adjustment -in the first pic u see where the wrence is, when u loosen that nut u can then turn the screw its on (move the scew up for larger gap tighten it down for less gap) once they are at the correct gap (measured with the feeler gauge) thats when u tighten the nut down makeing sure to hold the screwdriver steady adjust intake and exaust for that ignition sequence then turn the crank for next sequence... im sorry im horible with explaning thing if you lived closer id do it for you for free lol

Re: Valve Lash/Adjustment when & how
-probly find them online based on the engine,my stock z6 head I set to .007"intake side and .011" on the exhaust
-the feeler gauages are the thing with the numbers on it, theyre thin sheets of metal
-Im pretty sure they have to be readjusted for a new cam
-loosen it with the wrench, adjust with the screwdriver
