Default V-TEC wiring question

i have looked in the archives on wiring up V-TEC and i have found some good info. I need to wire up my B16a2 into my 92 civic DX. it says that i dont have to wire up any thing thats v-tec i just have to wire up knock sensor and secondary butterflies if applicable. do i need to wire the two things up and if so could you give some advice on where to run it from the ECU to the engine. Thanks in advance.

if you have a 92, and have an si harness, all you will have to do is wire in the knock, but since you have a dx, you will still need to run the spool valve and the oil switch atleast to the strut tower harnesses. and then run the knock.

All 92's are prewired for VTEC.

If you are using a chipped P28 ECU, it wont look for a knock sensor so you won't have to wire it up.

An easy way to wire up the ITB is to pull the red wire in A16 (I think it's the EVAP wire) and move it to wherever you need to put the ITBs.

Don't quote me on that last part, I think its only partially correct but I'm 100% sure on the first two things I said.

so if i have ordered a complete swap from JDM Customs than i dont have to do any wiring from the ECU, no knock sensor or anything, by the way what does ITB mean, sorry, i guess the ECU is a P28, how can i tell. the swap is a B16a2.thanks

Sorry you are right, I meant IAB.

You can tell if the ECU is a p28 because it should say something on the side a long the line of XXXXX-p28-XXXXXX

A p28 is a sohc EX ecu, but people chip them to run DOHC VTEC engines.

If you have a 92 car, and are using a p28 ECU, than when you do your swap there will be nothing to wire up, you just plug everything in an go.

FYI though, if you have a JDM swap then you need to get a USDM wiring harness off of either a Civic EX, Si, Integra GSR/Type R, or Del Sol Si/VTEC. Because the JDM harness are backwards and cant be used, plus yours will most likely be cut.

For the knock sensor you will need a plug that has two wires on it that plugs into the knock sensor. Solder wires onto the two wires from the plug and then run them into the ECU in the appropriate locations for the KS.

If you used your stock DX wiring harness off the engine, then you will have to run wires for VTEC. But if you get an OBD1 VTEC wiring harness it will be plug and play.

If I were you, I woul invest in a:
Chipped p28, talk to kenji on here or phearable.net
VTEC wiring harness, that way it's done well and clean and you will even pick up a couple extra HP from the p28

Pick up a OBD1 EX/Si harness. Is your car a 92 or not? If it is, then it's prewired. On my 92 hatch with a JDM B18C, I used the stock harness and had to wire up VTEC. I run a chipped P28 to get rid of the secondaries and knock sensor.

I also recommend Kenji's chipped P28. We dynoed my car and it made at least 10whp on the dyno. to Kenji!

it is a 92 DX and i already have the stock harness on, so i dont have to run a knock sensor or secondaries. but i do have to run VTEC correct.

You will have to add 4 wires, 2 for VTEC, one for the KS, and one for the IABs if you have a B18C1

Maybe you can help...I have a '00 Civic DX (automatic) and I put a B16B Civic type-R VTEC into it. All the mechanical aspects are together but I need help with the wiring. Are there diagrams that I can follow to wire this completely? I don't how to do this but I want to learn. Any help you can offer would be appreciated!

do you have to wire the entire harness to the engine or is it already on the engine and you just have to wire it to the car.
