Default tranny question

hey guys i just picked up a 92si recently. the previous owner had installed an act extreme clutch (i know that's the pressure plate, dunno what disk is in there) and the engagement seems pretty rough. I've gotten used to it after a few days but the shift into second gear hasn't seemed to smooth out. when i shift out of first at 3500 i have to let it drop to around 2000 before it engages even semi-smoothly. is this a sign of bad synchros? the other gears seem fine. any help is appreciated! thanks.

shifter fork most likely..........

he is my last one...........

part is about $50 from dealer and figure atleast 4-5 hours to R&R tranny and split it open to get at the shifter fork.

But them I'm better than most.

I would guess the syncros are going out personally....when you break the shift forks you can hardly shift into gear at all. (i lost 3rd gear all together)

Also you dont normally break the 2nd gear shift fork..its normally the 3rd which goes..

heres what mine looked like when i broke my 3rd gear shift fork...

Personally dude, I try to find a replacement from a salvage yard or maybe someone who's swapped out their SOHC (assuming you're still running a Z6). You could probably get one for a couple hundred bucks, tops. Labor alone just to remove and diagnose the problem at a tranny shop is going to be more than that.

Liam821......2 things.........

your 1-2 fork IS broken!

Your only the second person I've heard of break the 3-4 fork.

I've only ever seen 2 bad synchros in a D tranny. Last shifter fork wiped 70% of the teeth of the synchro.

usually hard getting into 3rd is just motor mounts.

If it totally refuses to go, then shifter fork.

No aftermarket forks yet, they would cost $1000 a set right now.

you can't bend cast alum. shifter forks, they just wear & break.
