Guys with grinds in your tranny...
Hey i had a quick question for you people with a grind in your tranny. If you shift hard into that gear with the grind, do you sometimes mis-shift and grind it worse?
I tried shifting hard into it and i mis-shifted, i felt like an idiot. And if you guys say i'm an idiot for shifting hard into that gear in the first place, it's because i'm getting my new tranny this weekend so i wanted to check a few things out.
Let me know if you've had the same problem

Re: Guys with grinds in your tranny... (nY's FiNeSt)
my third gear grinds a bit when shifting hard (fast).
of course the faster you shift the worse it will be, the synchros are fucked so the faster you shift the worse it will be.
its all about finesse... i plan on getting a short shifter soon and im curious to see if it makes a difference in the grind. I had a gsr shifter welded to my d-series linkage back in the day and it grinded just because of poor alignment... im curious to see if i have the same problem now and a different shifter will adjust it?!?!
we'll see i guess.

i know it'll grind if i shift fast (hard), i'm talking about mis-shifts. Because i usually don't miss a gear and tonight i missed my 3rd and it grinded even more like a ****, it gave me the chills
so i guess my question is, do you have a higher possibility of mis-shifting if you have a grind in your tranny?

to answer your last question, yes.
If you're used to driving a car with a smooth tranny, then the chance of mis shifting will increase because it's usually harder to get in gear. When my 3rd synchro was out, it was a pain shifting fast and smooth into 3rd, and mis shifted more than needed

A short shifter will increase the chance of wrecking synrcos. It will not prevent grinding of a gear either way. However, if you shift slow, and press clutch fast, a shoft shifter might be a good idea.
Skunk 2 makes decent parts. I've heard bad things about almost every short shifter, Honda designs the shifting mechism for a reason.
Has anyone had success with GM Synrcomesh Fluid?
