Timming Belt keeps backing off.
when i put my new harmonic balancer on the timing belt seems to be moving kinda off the pulleys.
Only thing i can think of is that circle thing that goes before the harmonic balancer and after the timming gear i didn't put back cause it wouldn't go back on.

You should have lined up the woodruff key with the flat part exposed. If you turn it around the other way, it will not work and jam up the crank pulley. Those timing belt guides are there for a reason. You should not have taken them off.

Re: Timming Belt keeps backing off.
dam, i drove it 20 miles already and it backs off like a milimeter but i can notice its not on the whole cam gear. i just push it back on more.
I did try it both way but the guide didn't have any way to let the woodruff key through. maybe ill cut a little whole for it to go through. I'm 10 miles away from the shop will it be Ok to drive it their? or will it fall off?

Here's the sequence when installing a timing belt:
1. timing belt guide ) timing belt ( timing belt guide .....woodruff key <---crank pulley.

Re: Timming Belt keeps backing off.
unless i was using the wrong belt guide then its not gunna work. because it should have like a whole where the guide will let the key through.
Can i use the y8 blocks timing gear?

Travis, I know you now have a service manual. Avoid deviating at all from what is recommended in the manual, and you'll save yourself from suffering a lot of grief.

Dude, the timing belt guide will make the key not fit in perfectly. This happened to mine too. Just put it in, and make sure it's the right side. I figured it out by looking at where it was a little worn off, that was the side facing the timing belt. Then put the key in, then the crank pulley.
The key won't fit as well, but it still fits fine. I'm doing this on a d15b2
