power from D16 vtech

power from D16 vtech
So i just got coils some strut tower braces and aftermarket Lcas for my 98 ek coupe. She handles like a dream, but now i would like alittle more power, not trying to acheive 200+ just enough to get more kick. Is it worth it to build up my engine, or should i just do a swap?(would like it NA) any tips and advise are welcome.

Might as well start to learn "Honda tuning" by learning how to spell VTEC
Boost the stock d16 and it should be good to around 200 hp. Any more and you're pushing it

well ive built tons of b series and d series and ive built d series cheaper then you can buy any b16 or gsr that smoked gsr's. don't get me wrong i love b series as much as any honda guy and my daily driver is a lsv integra but there's something about building a d series that beat b series. i just got rid of my 400whp turbo d series hatch n it was a blast. but ive built fast na sohc civics too. what i would do is buy zc pistons and upgrade your valve springs and get a stage 3 crowler cam with a z6 head and a ex/si tranny and with the proper tune you will eat up b series all day long with half as much invested and ull surprise tons of people. ive seen people with that same setup and the reguler bolt on's and they run mid to low 12's go to youtube and type in all motor d16 or na d series or something like that. they have the same setup and they run in the 12's at like 105-110mph. i know you can build fast b series too but your gonna spent between $2000-3800 just to get a good healthy not stolen b series. but you can buld that setup for around a $1000 or cheaper if you know how to shop around. its up to you cuz its your car but that's deff a fun cheap setup and its fun being the under dog.

most people i think go with a b series because they think its more hp your gonna beat all these other cars with it but which its not always. i think its just a lazy way going b series

or you can save for turbo in the fall and do that to the stock motor its all up to you. But since you wanted to stay NA like you said in the first post I would say swap it. get something fun and reliable.
No more D vs B in here its all your opinions.

i couldn't agree more.(ek coupe) like i said i love b series but a d series is basicaly the same thing just its bult more for fuel economy. and the whole sohc vs dohc is crap for the most part. the only real advantage of having two cams is if you wanna play with both intake timing and exhaust timing but you dont really gain much from that. and the only real thing that makes a b series and a d series much different is the 1.6 vs 1.8 but who cares there are d series that are NA that are in the 10's but there like 14:1 compression its just all how you build them and a little know how doesn't hurt either.

ya your right(Ya Digg) its all your opinions and that's what he asked for opinions. im pretty sure he also said he wants to do it cheap. and that's why i suggested building a d series. all you keep saying is swap it. any wanna be honda person can swap a motor my grandmother could swap a motor in a honda but the real backyard tuners build them and end up spending a lot less and end up with more. im not bashing on b series at all im just trying to help this guy out. he can swap it if he wants but i just want him to know that theres more options out there then just throwing a 140hp LS in there. if he builds a sohc with the parts im talking about he will spend around a grand and be somewhere between 180-200hp if tuned properly hondatuning did a build kinda like this but with just the pistons and a y8 intake mani and a y8 stock header and they made more then a b16. idk do what you want i guess.

i was running a single cam non vtec with a ebay no name header, stock everything else except a cold air intake and adjsutable cam gear ran 10 flats at the track all night (1|8 mile) won a free dyno pull at a ht a couple years ago it had 105 hp and 103. something ft lbs of torque at the wheels with the same set up i would have like to have seen it built but it spun a rod bearing. so i went with the lsvtec honestly had more fun out of the d series oh and i was running a vtec ecu cause i was going to use a vtec motor b4 i got that one but the motor was bad so i just left the ecu in it was chipped but i cant remember by who it was off ebay
