Whats up guys I have a 1992 Si hatchback (D16z6) with stock trans and an exedy clutch

My throw out bearing is making some noise - little more than usual and its bothering me because I know I'm gunna be swapping motors soon (By January) and I am trying to avoid doing all the work of replacing the t.o.b because, as most of you know, you gotta drop the tranny and all that wonderful business. I was wondering If I changed my tranny fluid and used like a GM Synchromesh or something thick if it would quiet the T.O.B noise down at all? Or if there are any other solutions?

Cliff NoteS: Any solution to quiet a Throw out bearing down without replacing it???

No the syncromesh would not quiet the TOB because it is not inside the tranny, it's on your clutch. Are you sure it's your TOB that's making that noise and not your main input shaft bearing?

You could either wait until you do the swap and deal with the noise or take a couple of hours and replace the bearing.

if you are for sure swapping i jsut say ignore it.

The TOB would only make noise when the clutch pedal is in use. I bet you hear noise when you let the clutch out right? If so, just ignore the noise and go easy on the tranny until you swap.

Ok so it's alright to continue to drive a car with a bad throwout bearing..

The bearing will eventually seize up.

Very rude.

A honda throwout bearing is around 30-35 dollars..

Get some friends together and you can take it a few steps at a time and you can have it done in one weekend.

That is if you know for sure it's your throwout bearing.

I thought my throwout bearing was going bad and it turned out my ISB (input shaft bearing and counter shaft bearing went bad) including a shift fork that had a chunk missing out of it.

Actually, I have seen them go for a few years before they started to become a big problem. I am will to say it will last to his swap. Thats saying if it is his throwout bearing.
