Is it supposed to be this hard to turn?
I just got a beat 94 Civic VX. = no power steering, which I'm used to. My problem is the car is REAL hard to turn. I dont know how to explain it, but it feels like its harder to turn than it should be. Also, it kinda jerks back and forth when i turn the wheel. It's not smooth. I guess my question would be what could cause these kinds of problems?

Did the car originally have PS and then converted to no PS without all of the PS equipment removed? I know this can cause it to be very hard to turn.

good info guys. but it could also be the tires. do the tires jerk the wheel back and forth when ur driving in a straight line? u could also have bad tie rods. when mine went my steering wheel would bounce back and forth and i couldnt turn fast.

I thought that the VX never came with power steering. Maybe it was an option? The problem is the car is actually hard to turn at 20 mph and below, not just a dead stop. I guess I will check the tie rods.

As far as I know, pretty much all modern Hondas (90s and up) that didn't come with a/c or p/s had the factory option to come with such options.
