Default Should I replace this crank? (pics inside)

So long story short, my car was making some weird noises, after investigation I found the crank pulley was spinning freely, I took the pulley off to find this...

The slot for the key is broken -_____-
So now I need to figure out what to do about this, and these are my options.

1. Get a new key JB weld that B!tch (probably not a good idea)

2. Cut a new slot for the key (what do i have to lose?)

3. Replace the crank (last resort)

Idk how or what could cause this to happen, but I need to fix this so I can sell my civic, so the less money I spend the better. If anyone has any ideas, advice, input, or if you want to tell me all my ideas are stupid and i should just replace the thing PLEASE let me know.
Thanks guys.

I figured as much, I'm probably going to pull one from the junkyard tomorrow. I know b18b cranks are compatible, but what about b18a?

Does anyone know of a write up that shows how to do this?

You have to tear the engine apart entirely pretty much. If its a non vtec b series, id just replace the whole bottom end, they are a dime a dozen.

But if you want to try it, JB weld it up. You really have nothing left to lose. I did with with an ej22 once, and it worked fine.

remove the engine/trans from the car

disconnect trans/ clutch/ flywheel from engine

your crank pulley is already removed, pull off that timing gear

remove oil pan

remove oil pickup

unbolt oil pump

remove pistons

remove the girdle

after you get the oil pump disconnected i'm pretty sure you can get ready to take the crank out

this is just off the top of my head though

I'll try it, if it works, cool! worst case scenario i have to take the engine out again.

Hopefully I can get it running this weekend and I'll update then.

V8's that have added superchargers add keyways/pins all the time. There may be kits to do this. Or you could make your own. Here is an idea of what they look like... http://ls1tech.com/forums/parts-clas...k-pin-kit.html

that could possibly work but that cast iron crank is gonna be a pain to drill straight and i dont know if the snout is thick enough to drill into. you could always try its already messed up if it cracks or breaks while drilling u can always replace it as recommended. use a cutting oil when drilling or any oil to help keep the bit cool from burning up the tip so quickly.

Had the samething happen to me with a B16A. I used JB Weld to try to reform the spot that was messed up on the crank. I then JB Welded the Woodruff Key onto the Crank. Year and a half later, still going strong.
