for some cars, if they are overheating, turning on the heater will take some heat off the engine....if you are driving hard and your coolant temp is normal, then running any accessories will just put more drag on the alternator.

i would only crank the heater if your engine is overheating....also i wouldnt turn off the car if it overheats. let it idle and let the heater rip

your heater is just another tiny radiator under the dash..so it can displace some of the engines heat..

but if driving your car under hard conditions and the temp starts to raise, you probably need to look at buying a bigger radiator

after running my car at the track a few passes I let it idle with the heater on...just to be safe...

but like the guys said......it wil put more stresss on the alty, and it is used when your car is overheating, it the temp is fine leave it....

Another thing I do, after running my car hard I just don't turn it off, I let it idle untill the fan turns on and off once....am I being too paranoid??
