Default high engine temp on highway

I noticed my engine temp was running about 3/4 of the temp gauge on the way home from work. I turned on the heat full blast and it went back to 1/4 (normal running temp for car).

The temp was in the 70's today.

92 CX H22 swap stock radiator aftermarket 12" slim fan. everything else is stock (exhaust, fuel pump, etc...)

I let the car idle without heat and the temp went back to normal... I'm going to go check the coolant now.

Let me know if anyone has any ideas.

Thanks
Anthony

I let the car run at idle without rad cap on and heat on full blast for 20minutes. Put cap back on and turned heat off didn't seem to start overheating.

It appeared the the radiator was smoking from the cap though.... There was also coolant running down the sides of rad from when I had the cap off

Thanks

The fan turns on. It appears that it is sucking air from the radiator.
