Replaced Speed sensor but still at 20 mph.
I have been having problems with my VSS and the new one came in today. I put it in and started her up but still had the same problem of being stuck at 20. Is the speed sensor still fucked up? Or is the problem further down the line?

Sounds like the problem isn't and probably wasn't in the first place, in the VSS. Check the wiring or it could be the guage itself. So at idle it sticks at 20MPH but when you start moving does the gauge move or just sit there?

Yes more info needed. also how much did you pay for your VSS? and where did you get it?
mine might be out.
I have a trobleshooting guide for VSS that I am going though at this moment.

At least you will be able to get the part numbers and a good price at these sites. I recommend printing it and taking it to your local dealer, they should be able to price match and you'll save on shipping..

But I'm pretty confident the gauge will need to be replaced..

That's almost always caused by a bad speedo head.

WTF is a speedo head? It works sometimes, and since the replacement it works more often than before but still not enough. It actually shakes when goin at speeds believed to be near or below 20. Sometimes it just falls from 60 (or whatever I am going) to 20 and back again. I have overlays on my gauges but the problem happeded way after I installed them. The check engine light is on as well and hasn't gone off since my engine swap. the last engine was destroyed cuz of rod knock because i missed oil changes due to the odometer not working in hand with the speedometer.

man, ALWAYS check what code your throwing, and if you cant find the ECU thread on where to do that, you shouldent be driving

A new cluster sure as **** ain't gonna fix your cel. I'd get that fixed asap. What I want to know is how you missed oil changes SO badly that you fucked your motor. You would think after a significant amount of time went by you'd think to yourself"ya know...maybe I should check my oil". Not to sound like a dick...but maybe you shouldn't be working on your own car?

Hey not to sound like a dick or anything but get bent! Just kidding. The car had about 190,000 miles on it! 500 miles here 500 there it added up especially on that used of an engine. The car was burning oil as well. It was on its last leg and this whole deal didnt help it at all.

I'm not that flexible so sorry....cab't get bent for ya.
No biggie...I guess some people just make more of an effort to keep their cars in good running shape via regular maintenance and upkeep.

I had the same problem with a 94 Accord. Replaced the speed sensor and speedo was still stuck around 20mph half the time. Am in the process of installing a new inst cluster in hopes that will help.

let me know how that works out! Can I get in trouble for replacing the gauge cluster? odometer fraud? But then again the speedo hasnt worked for like 6 months now so its fucked anyways huh?

Well in that case you should take your car to a shop or make friends with someone who actually knows WTF they are doing. It will save you $ and headaches in the long run. The speedo thing may not get fixed just with throwing parts at it. You could buy the VSS and new gauges just to learn its in the wiring. A CEL could indicate wiring issues with the swap, so getting an expert or at least a novice in there is a good idea before you blow another engine. Just my 2¢. Good luck either way..

Re: Replaced Speed sensor but still at 20 mph. (HondaFanatic708)
The CEL is coming from 3 codes
1. VSS
2. O2 sensor
3. O2 sensor
Now as far as checking the wires I checked the clip its still in good shape. I followed the wire from the clip, behind the engine, under the Intake Manifold, and across to the other side of the car and nothing is out of the ordinary. I checked the main clip right up by the windsheild and nothing looked fucked up on it. If i could get a hold of a multimeter how would I check the clip as far as voltage is concerned? And if voltage looks good on both ends should I assume its the gauge cluster?
