Default Quick Question About B18 Swap into EJ Civic...

I'm prepping to do a B18B swap within a month or so and just had two major questions that seemed unanswered from reading.

1. There is supposedly a gap between the b18's headers and the civic's cat, and people weld extensions.... is there any way around this? (b16 headers or an integra's cat were the only two other solutions so far.)

2. About how long does this all take? My garage is insanely crowded and might use my girlfriend's parents' so long as it can be done in a day or so.

3. Any b-series shift linkage will fit right?

any other thoughts/comments/flames are welcome.

Thanks in advance

My swap in my dx eg was pretty much all plug and play it took me a weeked, it could of took less but you know.. its just kind of a bitch fitting everything in but its really not hard if you've been researching.

I dont know about the exhaust because i installed my turbo with the motor but my best suggestion is to just go ahead and put the header on, see how close it is to your stock exhaust, and if its pretty damn close then maybe you could just get a bigger gasket for that connection, and if you were going to extend it i would unbolt the cat from opposite side of the motor, and extend that side of the pipe and weld that extra piece to your existing pipe

i've been researching for months now it's insane
and since it's a weekend job it might have to be done in my garage and the stuff moved into the snow lol

any other thoughts? especially on the exhaust question?

1. you hit the nail on the head best bet is to use the teg cat ( unless you have a b16 header laying around)

2. if youre techniclly inclined, then it should only take you, at the most , two days.
did my swap in less than 6 hours.

3. not too sure about the shift linkages, but if no one give a solid response, i'd go with the SI linkages

Don't really mean to Hijack the thread, but for somebody who has not done any real automotive work should a swap be attempted alone?

Awesome! That solves that mystery.

Was it your first swap? I'm well aware of what I'm doing, but just wondering if it makes that much of a difference if there has been hands on experience involved.

I've never done a swap in my life.
This is my first project car and have been only reading up on things for a few months.

The only thing I would tell you is to do is read, read, read, read.
You might also benefit from popping your hood too. The other day was spend looking in my bay and getting familiar with all the mounts, vacuum lines, hoses, ect... that were going to be pulled in a swap.

Since nobody around me does stuff like this I'm only getting someone for a second and eyes, but everything is pretty straight forward for b and d series.

Yeah, I might have a swap in the near future but nobody around me I know is a mechanic or familiar with cars.

any DC integra shift linkage should fit.. not sure on the DA.. it might as well..
SI linkage will fit..
i think del sol linkage is different.. not positive..

the swap is straight forward.. i did my first swap years ago in a EG coupe.. only took a few hours..
not sure if you EJ is obd1 or obd2 but...

you said you've been reading up on it..
i recently did my ls/vtec in my EK..
DC shift linkage..
stock mounts.. EK post mount.. SI bracket
SI rear tranny bracket.. and DC trans mount. All Honda OEM.. worked out great.

The wiring was a little tricky.. i decided to do it after the motor was in the car.. i dunno why.
IACV, Crank position sensor, knock, vtec, if you have vtec..
you need to swap some connectors over
extending some wires is also needed.. so break out the soldering iron and heat shrink tubing. no twisting and black tape!

I had to cut and add a piece of pipe to my mid section of the exhaust. It was short.. i used an LS header.. but it all worked out for now.

Basic hand tools are pretty much all you need.. unless you have access to air tools/electric tools. Only tough things are the axle nuts.

another good idea is to take a few pictures of the current engine in the bay..
Like a picture of vacuum lines, hoses.. how the harness routes around the engine/bay..

the swap will be a b18b.. and no vtec for now.

so would there be too much of a worry for wire extensions with the harness?

and it's obd1

i dunno about OBD1 swapping.. if you get an LS swap.. try to get the harness with it
its plug and play 92-95 civics..
that will eliminate all harness cutting/extending/changing connectors/etc...
make life easier..

B18b swap.. engine, trans, axles, shift linkage, ecu, engine harness.. i think all LS mounts will work for 92-95 civics.. minus the rear T bracket.

i think thats all..

you said .. and no vtec for now..
if you plan to go ls vtec..
atleast change out the rod bolts with some ARP bolts.
while your at it.. some higher compression pistons and new rings will make a great daily driver.
dont be cheap if you decide to go that route later..

Shouldn't if you get the ls harness. I swapped my b18 into my car in a few hours and it was my first time swapping a b in a civic chassis. I had done a few single cam swaps before that however.
The hardest part is just re-pinning some of the ecu plugs and waiting for dumb parts to arrive that you forget about. I forgot to order the 2 front lower torque mount brackets and and to wait about a week to get them before I could start the swap.
