question about MPGs 92-95 vx/si
hi guys.
i'm torn between getting a stock vx and a si.
i wanna know the recognized MPG between the both.
i want a SI model because it'll always be a SI. plus i have a complete vtec-e swap i can throw in there too.
bu i want a vx because it'll come MPG save ready
does any one know the MPG these two get.
any helpful input is appreciate. thanks.

For the Si you can expect mid 30s for mpg and as high as 50 mpg for the VX. Granted both are in proper operating condition.
Driving habits that promote fuel economy will boost these numbers.
The Si is the heaviest 5th gen hatch, and the VX is the lightest iirc.

Re: question about MPGs 92-95 vx/si
will it be good MPG's if i throw the vtec-e into the si?
im leaning toward the si, but the purpose was always gas economy so the vx sways me.

you'll gain mpg with an Si with a vtec-e engine, it wont be as much as a true vx though.
imo it'll be a waste of money.
may be better to buy the vx, then add some features to it yourself (power windows, locks, rear speakers)

Unless you find a top notch VX that has low miles and the engine was never abused and you dont mind driving no faster than 55 its a good car. I've had mine for almost 8 year and pretty close to near stock with 213k miles on it and on a good week maybe get close to 40mpg. What mcvtec said is right with what the mpg's can respectively get. With that said I would definitely get the Si depending on what options its coming with.

SI it is especial clean title and to top it off i have a vx swap ecu and all. all i need is the vx harness and i'm set
thanks guys.
[Linked] that was a good thought tho. but no sunroof :/
besides from reading arround no ones is really getting 50MPGs from vx's. so i guell the i'll do good with a SI.
60 miles one way every weekday FTL
thanks HT.

Re: question about MPGs 92-95 vx/si
x2 I get 39-43 mpg on average with my cx and do 50 mpg on occasion. My vote goes for getting a vx and swap in a z6 but keep the vx tranny to retain the mpg. Best of both worlds

50+ mpg on a vx would depend on, if its a federal version or a cali version
federal has the wideband o2 which causes the car to go into lean burn increasing mpgs

A VX and an Si are like worlds apart. While the VX does have a VTEC-e engine, most of the fuel economy gains are from the transmission. Maybe you could get an SI and put a VX transmission in it? I don't know but I do know you'll get crap fuel economy from the Si even if you shift early. To get "mid 30s", you've got to be doing a lot of highway driving. Also the VX is certainly capable of more than 50mpg especially if you're getting "mid 30s from an Si". The VX will be a stripped civic DX that is even slower but gets great fuel economy. I didn't buy the VX because of this reason and because it's a hatchback. Though I may reconsider in the future.

Re: question about MPGs 92-95 vx/si
Or... You could just buy a car that comes with Z6 and just put in a VX tranny on that. Why the F would you swap out the engine in a VX when you can just attach the transmission to a vehicle that already has a Z6? This makes no sense. Too many people are stripping Civic VXs and it's upsetting because they're rare vehicles and for those who do in fact want a VX, you're diminishing what's available with your idiotic swaps. If you want to do swaps to any vehicle, do it to a DX, they're a dime a dozen and weigh nearly the same as a CX/VX.

Re: question about MPGs 92-95 vx/si
although the trans helps out vx's get great gas mileage its cause of the VTEC-E lean burn, why do you think you dont see any other models with that kind of mpgs, the cx has the same tranny and doesnt get as good as gas mileage as the vx.

Re: question about MPGs 92-95 vx/si
the vx's fuel economy is not really based around the tranny. a local here has an si transmission on it for the shorter gearing and maintains his car regularly and he is getting 40+ city and 50+ highway. he bought the car brand new.
the biggest factor with the vx and its great fuel economy is the 5wire o2 sensor and the ecu. the car goes into lean burn mode.
