Project help
I have a 1998 civic lx and it has 261k on it and I did the head gasket and timing and just changed the tps sensor. I did the timing awhile ago ran great again , then I drove through a storm and by time I got home it was puttering and died as soon as i stopped . I turned it on the next day and it was knocking . I tried to do the timing again and it's still knocking , I changed the to cylinder head ,new belt , I don't have the timing cover and for some reason the lines on the crank don't match up with the arrows on the head . I always put the bottom at tdc and top I have the crank at UP . Now when I turn it over it revs all the way up to 4000 while knocking and the throttle isn't open , my foot isn't even on the gasand I took the cable off the throttle body and it still does it . Do I need it on the "compression stroke" ? I really need assistance

Re: Project help
Use the timing marks properly. With "UP" approximately up, look for two slash marks on the edge of the cam gear. These must line up with the edge of the head when the crank is at TDC. Some models also have a third slash mark at about 7 o'clock which lines up with a plastic pointer attached to the head. Double check that your crank pulley is installed properly, you can remove spark plug 1 and probe in the cylinder to see when the piston is all the way up, this should correspond to the single mark on the crank pulley coming under the pointer on the lower cover.
