why don't you just go wet and not worry about porting them?

don't port the head. BTW it is a swirl port head...it is my opinion one has to be very careful with anything more than a mild clean up and exhaust side polish.

just spray it. use an NX kit.

may i ask what bottom end you have, stock y8?

oh, and get head studs.

i had my head ported, the shop ****ed it all up. So I had a bad experience, You might get lucky and find a shop that knows what there doing. imo just leave it, maybe a quick polish at most.

right, i agree.

a mild mild port y8 head will work fine for most applications. just a clean up, maybe some blending and make sure the surfaces on the intake side are uniformly rough, and the same for the exhaust side but of course polish vs. roughen. polish the chambers, make sure the valve seats are good, etc. if you mess with it too much the swirl gets all f'd up and the cylinder to cylinder behavior becomes varied.

getting those would vary on the shot he gets right? I mean, no point in buying extra things depending on his application.

It's better to keep it on the safe side though.

it's a personal choice. you are right that head bolts should be just fine - i used them for quite a while with my high compression y8.

but those d16y8 head bolts and tq specs were designed to handle very progressive cylinder pressures that max out at a pretty nominal power level.

i just think that with sudden cylinder pressure jumps, such as that with moderate spray or boost, studs provide a sense of security. the number is arbitrary though as far as what size of shot. but you don't have to worry about the head lifting with studs considering they are ideal for such high cylinder pressures. i also think it's harder for people to mess up torquing the head with studs vs. bolts, which means a guarantee of even torque across the head.

i tend to want to overbuild a bit when it comes to juice because of my past with the damned stuff.

^Indeed. I suppose regardless of the shot, that sudden push of torque and power (especially depending on the rpm on which you opened the bottom I'd assume) could be devastating to a SOHC built for efficiency.

i mean maybe. it's one of those things. i'd hate to put it together with bolts and then have the damned head lift down the line from a ping or just flat out higher cylinder pressure.

but then again you have a ton of sohc people running around with bolts and a decent amount of turbo boost, haha.
