Default oil pressure problem

just did an oil pressure checkon my freshly rebuilt d16y8 and the oil presure is showing at 60 psi at 1500 rpm but the manual calls for 10 psi and 1k rpm does this mean my oil pump is bad or somthing was done wrong?

was your 60 psi reading at cold start ?

Watch what your car idles at after its warm. Should be around 10-15 psi.

60psi sounds ok to me at idle. My current LS engine sits at 75-80psi at idle when cold. Once warmed up it pumps around 20-25psi at idle and sits at 70-75psi in 5th at 60mph. My old D16Z6 was about the same except it pumped out a higher PSI at idle cold.

Nah 60psi at idle is fine on a cold engine, even after 3 mins the oil wouldn't have had much heat to it. You will run higher oil psi on a cold engine because the oil is cold and thicker, as the oil heats up it will thin out and your psi will drop. My old D16Z6 used to run at 90psi all the time on a cold startup. When I first installed my gauge and seen that I thought maybe I had an oil passage blocked somewhere in the engine but it never had any problems, I sold the motor to a friend of mine when I swapped my LS in and my old Z6 is in my friends 91 CRX Si now, still running like a champ.

And like I said earlier my LS runs at roughly 75psi cold at idle and then drops to 20-25psi at idle once warmed up good. From the sounds of it, I say enjoy your freshly rebuilt engine. .

BTW I see your from Charlotte. That's cool. I live in Concord not far outside of Charlotte.

Might see you around but it won't be at a meet. I don't go to any meets do to thieves. I have heard of to many people going to a meet only to have there car stolen later that day/night by someone that followed them home.

would there be a way to determine if there are problems with your oil pressure just through the sound of the engine or the way it runs? (just wondering)
