Default need some info on chipped ecu's (spoon,mugen,skunk2,jun)

ok im thinking about having my ecu chipped and im caught in a dilemma i herd that the jun chip should be used with the jum cams, and same with the jun skunk2 or they should only be used with certain setups is that true? Right now my b18 is stock internal wise and i would like a little more reving. Heres what they offer chip wise.

spoon: vtec pops at 6,000 and redlines at 9,000
mugen: vtec pops at 4,500 and has no redline
jun: vtec pops at 4,400 and redlines at 9,100
skunk2: vtec pops at 4,800 and redlines at 9,000

so what do you guys think ???

thanks, jason

essentially all the aftermarket chips just add more fuel and advance your timing.

http://www.hrtuning.com has a pretty good comparison between a lot of the aftermarket chips out there.

HRTuning is awesome. I know the owner very well and I trust him. His custom programs are VERY VERY GOOD and they are inexpensive for what you get. This is definitly a gread deal and i even trust him with my own cars.

personally i would wait off on the chipping since your motor is still pretty much stock. You wont actually gain a lot of power, but rather just burn up a lot of fuel. Wait until you get some internal work done, then look into getting your ecu chipped

I agree. I was going to go this route but I found a VAFC for cheap. They are only like 200 and are tunable, way better alternative to chips.

I agree that pre programmed chips are worthless. However, HRTuning does custom chips to your specs. he has started to work with us and he definitly can make you an awesome program. We trust him with our high HP cars. His chips **** on the VAFC.

all of you guys are right........ but if you click on my vouch thread...the guy who dynoed my gsr posted my dyno graph. It shows the comparison of a stock gsr ecu vs. one of my custom all motor programs for the GSR w/ bolt ons, itr cams, skunk2 IM. As you will see, i gained some great power with just the chipped p28 ecu w/ my all motor chip. No tuning was done. If i had a vafc, then i wouldve tuned the program out more on the spot, and probably wouldve gained more power...... if you settle for the ebay chips, then expect not to gain anything...... know who and what kind of stuff your buying from, and you'll be satisfied in the end
