I notice I have too much clearence between the brake shoes and the drum. Since my self adjusting screw wont self adjust is there any other way that I can adjust the clearence. I have been trying by taking the drum off turning that star thing and putting it back on. But this doesnt seem to work too well. Also tried searching on this topic but could not find anything with detailed explanation or pictures.

Are you turning the screw so that it increases the number of threads visible? Just make sure you are so the shoes are spreading apart.

How do you know they aren't self-adjusting? Does the parking brake work? If you can pull the handle all the way up and still spin the wheels then the shoes need to be spread. You should be able to pump the brakes over and over to get them to adjust.

Is the self-adjusting clip installed? The little lever that's supposed to ratchet along the adjusting screw.

Maybe just take it apart and clean and lube it all up.

on all the civic ive seen whit drums that adjuster never works.....i dont know why cuz eveything is there to make it work but i guess hondas design just doesnt work i adjust mine every month or so just buy turning the star wheel
