Need HELP... passing emissions B16 eg
Well ive failed emissions for the third time now and I can't figure out why. I did a compression test and the numbers were all pretty consistent 215-220ish leakdown was a little high 15%,18%,20%,22%. I was thinking it was my rings because of the leakdown but the car doesnt burn much oil less than half a quart between changes. The car does smoke sometimes but its a grayish colored smoke and it only does it sometimes. Im running a p28 chipped for my b16 and i thought it could be that but i tried another ecu and it still didnt go away. I just took it to another shop and he seems to think it could be sensors well any help is very appreciated.

There is no way you'll pass with a chipped P28 unless it has the exact same fuel maps as a P30.
What was the other ECU you tried?

another p28 that was supposed to have the same fuel map as the stock ecu to my motor b16a2 but i didnt know how to verify that the ecu actually did have a stock fuel map on it anyway i can tell? My buddy bought it and told me i could use it because he needed it for the same thing to pass emissions but he hasnt tried it yet and didnt work for me.

i have the same problem, i have a 90 honda civic hatchback, we swapped the engine for a b16a and it has the same problem, it runs to rich. it has a new cat, new sensors, full exhaust new aftermaket muffler 2 and a half inch pipe, new fuel regulator, new distributor and rotor, new fuel injectors, new fuel filter, basically everything to try to get it to pass emissions was changed. Now i`ve had people and mechanics and emissions tell me that it is definetly the computer, im pretty sure they made a mistake and installed the same factory honda civic computer, but im not sure, they tell me to get the computer for a dual overhead cam 1.6l b16a but isnt there 2 computers for this engine, which would help me pass emissions and is the computer the problem, oh another thing they also tell me that if i change the timing a little bit off not to much to screw with the idle but enough to pass that it would work to, is this possible

Re: Need HELP... passing emissions B16 eg (morenoesrider)
Don't worry about jacking my thread and yes the b16a3 in a del sol ran off the p30 ecu and the b16a2 out of the 99-00 si ran off the p2p ecu but you can have someone chip a p28 or converted p06 to whatever fuel map u want. I was trying to see whether i could check the map in an ecu on my own and if there could be other factors besides an ecu causing me to fail emissions. Goodluck and please someone who know there **** please chime in. This is beginning to turn into a headache.
If you have a 90 civic thats obd0 so make sure your running the conversion harness if your running and obd1 ecu or your cars gonna run terrible.

I don't know how to check the maps. Maybe through crome? I'm not a tuner so.
As for the OBD0 guy. You can probably get it to work with a PR3 (OBD0 B16 ECU). Not sure

I failed hydrocarbons 03.25 limit is 01.20 and carbon grams 036.28 limit 020.00
first test was 01.88 hydrocarbons and 036.12 carbons so my test went up from first to third test after i changed the oil and added no smoke and guaranteed emissions passer. Wondering if i have bad injectors? but the car runs well it just wont pass. Mods are sk2 im, dc header, intake, plugs are fine, exhaust.

Try using an OBD1 P30 ecu out of the 94-95 Del Sol VTEC's, equipped with a B16A3. Also are you using an EVAP Purge solenoid and are all your vaccum lines and breather hoses hooked up correctly?

Re: Need HELP... passing emissions B16 eg (dxcoupe.)
all my vac hoses are correct and fine cause i checked those but ill recheck and check the evap purge. Im also gonna try to see if someone has a p30 i can borrow just to pass because i just bought a p28 and dont feel like shellin out another 100 150 for an ecu again. Any other thoughts suggestions are much appreciated..
