Need Help with build for 94 Del Sol
Hey everyone I just recently bought a 94 del sol si. but the d16z6 has been pulled and he dropped in a d15. The 1.6 is in the basement in good running condition I'm looking for ideas for a cheaper budget build for some decent power and reliability. I've been throwing around the idea of rebuilding the z6 with some eagle rods and vitara pistons but the more i look into it the longer i'd have to wait for the build so any ideas guys. I wanna keep the z6 id rather not swap for a B series.

no turbo?
find a d16a shortblok
y8 head
y8 cams
y8 intake mani
try to find these parts for decent NA Dseries power
vitara pistons will give u knock (normal but annoying)
maybe some cbr600 itbs and a zex cam

Re: Need Help with build for 94 Del Sol
Well i was planning on a turbo with the eagle rods and the vitara pistons but like i said that was a bit more than i was planning so id have to put it off a bit longer to pay for machine shop fees and parts and all that so i was looking for something fun to do in the mean time till i can go with the turbo. Approx how much am i looking at for the build you said if i did the work myself?

Re: Need Help with build for 94 Del Sol
depends on what exactly you want out of it what your goals are.
to rebuild it with oem parts to be like new again would be like $200 for all the parts.
ie
headgasket
rod and main bearings
oil pump
water pump
timing belt
like i said it depends. if you want to spend som extra money to have a shop over bore the block to have a better pistons fit and buy bigger oversize oem pistons. that will make sure there is no egg shape going on in the cylnder walls.
and make a valve job. which is always nice and helps the motor alot. and worth the $40-50.
use teh same cam, use the same rods.
this is what im doing for fun over the winter jus for your reference.
d16a6 block from a 91 si. either a6 pistons or GX pistons for more comp
y8 head w/ zex cam
cbr 600 itbs welded to z6 mani. or use the ported y8 mani with h22 TB
and maybe a bottle of nos....now i just have to find a car to put it in.
either way itl be fun to build over the winter.

Well like i mentioned I'm looking for reliability and more power but i would like to get it from the z6 i already have, opposed to finding the d16a. i thought about just doing a stock rebuild of the z6 so i could get the experience of doing it and just go with all bolt ons for a while till i get the time and money to actually beef up the bottom end and turbo it. I just dont want to go overboard and run the risk of killing my DD (i know its always a risk)
