It shouldn't be any different than any D-series motor out there. So the motor won't start? Crank?

EDIT:

Nevermind, setting TDC's on these varies on the motors.

Nah it starts, I just throw a code 8. How would I got about checking to see if I have a bum TDC sensor?

I have seen motors off 2 teeth (almost 20 degrees) and never seen that cause a code 8.

well just remember this,
those two horizontal marks on the cam gear,
are always at least really CLOSE to parallel with the top of the block/bottom of head.
it varys from engine to engine, but not by much.

so until someone with a propely setup d15b goes out and tells us what is the correct setting,
you should set it so those marks are lined up with the top of the block, just so you know ur motor is at least CLOSE to spec!

btw I have a d15b, but i dont have any time to crank it to tdc position and chek, sorry..

Yeah, it might be 180 degrees off and that would certainly explain the code .

No. Look at the damn sheet from the Helms manual posted above.

JIM! calm thyself!!
haha!

what I worry about is,
yes.. the d15b is has a z1 block.. but it has a z6 head!
the camgears are look differetn between the two according to the posted diagrams..

or when you checked last time did you verify the d15b's camgear matches the z1 not the z6?

To the best of my knowledge and experience all SOHC D-series cam gears are the same #PM3B from '88-'95. The Z1 chart is right. Period. The P08 designation applies to the Z1 and Z6 heads. Basically it is the same casting with different machining to allow for the different VTEC configuration. The reason for the different timing setting procedure is to account for the shorter deck height of the 1.5l blocks.

One more time....

On a D-series block it is impossible to get a code 8 (TDC Position) simply because the timing is off. Why? The D series blocks through '95 at least do not have a sensor on the crank to reference to. Your timing could be out 180 and it still would not throw a code 8.

The TDC sensor in the distributor is bad, or there is an open circuit in the wiring to the ECU. You should have 350 to 700 ohms resistance between the orange/blue and the white/blue wires coming from the distributor. You should also be able to generate a small AC voltage in those same wires if you spin the distributor while the test probes are connected.

His motor is too far advanced, and that's why it isn't making good power.

Set the timing per the D15Z1 chart, then test the distributor. Spend $15 on a Haynes manual from Pep-Boys to help with the troubleshooting.
