MY CVT tranny took a crap
Hey hows it going guys, Ive searched and didnt turn up much info. Hopefully someone can help me. I have a 97 civic HX coupe with the D16y5 and the CVT tranny. The problem started about a week ago, the car turns on and runs fine but as soon as i put it in drive the car would move a few feet and it would feel like its struggling then shut off. Now the car just shuts off everytime i put it in gear. So I figured my tranny is done for. Now my question is what are my options? can I just swap in another auto tranny or do a manual swap fairly easy? Ive checked the stealership and a new tranny or even having them fix it would be WAY out of the question and from what Ive gathered finding another used cvt tranny wouldnt be smart since it can have the same problem. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED since im a noob with hondas

Re: MY CVT tranny took a crap (Jekzfab)
the CVT tranny uses a different mount then both the auto and manual trannies. personally i would go manual conversion. new pedals, clutch master cylinder, lines, shifter, tranny itself, ecu.
being that it is not the typical auto to manual swap, there will need to be special mounts. i have no experience with this particular swap but someone here does.
you could always sell the car. or look around junk yards for a cvt? what kind of lubricant did you use for the tranny? and when was the last time you checked it/ changed it?

You will need to remove the welded-on passenger side framerail bracket and have a 5-speed one welded in it's place because the CVT auto tranny utilizes a completely different mount than all other 96-00 Civics, 5-speed or auto.
Aside from that I don't know much more, because I've never done one and I cannot recall reading a topic about one that had all the info in it - mostly just asking he question like this one.
