Is My car Vtec
I just bought my first honda (a 95 civic ex). The valve cover says VTECH HONDA, but there is not "boost" at 6k rpm that typical vtech engines have. My car does not have the original engine in it because the previous owner blew a piston. Is my car actually a vtech engine and it just doesnt kick in until like 7k or 8k rpm or is there a sensor or something unplugged or somebody just grabbed a random valve cover and threw it on b/f the previous owner purchased this engine.
Thanks

if your valve cover says "vtech" than theres somethin wrong lol..is it painted on? or does it say "VTEC"? now if it does and which the EXs do than yes its vtec(also considering you cant but a vtec valve cover on a non vtec engine )....there really isnt much of a vtec kick with stock single cams and most of the time you cant hear it(without an intake and some i still cant hear it) ....you can check to see if the solenoid is good or clean the pressure switch maybe its not engaging its possible that when they did the swap they didnt hook all the wires up so i would go get a haynes manual and go over the whole vtec system(there is a lot of reasons why vtec could not be engaging oil pressure, bad soilniod, faulty wiring, dirty soiloid gasket screen, VPS ect....) you need to trouble shoot if you think its not working

No honda valve cover says vtech, some do say vtec though

Its not a turbo, you wont normally feel vtec unless you've got a type R or B16, you will just hear it engage, that said your engine is a D16Z6, SOHC vtec, and the vtec engagement is quite quiet.

Nah its not painted it is a legit valve cover. I was in my buddys 95 integra that havs vtec and if you watch the tach you see the jump in rpms when vtec kicks in. I was also in my other buddies 99si and he has that same noticible jump. I was just looking for that "jump" on my car.

Your motor is a tiny SOHC (Single Over Head Cam). You will never feel it "Kick" like you would in the larger DOHC (Dual Over Head Cam) motors.
Your friend has either an LS VTEC Swap in his Integra, or a GSR motor. and the Si is a B16.
Both of these are larger DOHC motors where there is a noticable feel and sound to VTEC engagement.
Doesn't really matter, they're all slow.

well you were in a gsr and a b16 powered si...both b series engines...they have loud vtec crossover and you can feel it...you have a d series which you will not get anywhere near what your buddies have with vtec engagement

Most likely your car does have vtec, but like everyone else said it's a single cam it's not going to sound or feel like a B series unless it's built.
