Default My car has problems.......help please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok well heres the deal, my 00 si has 61k miles on it with I/H/E, my clutch is on its legs (as you might imagine), anyways lately my car has been hesitating and the air/fuel guage is not displaying like it used too. i t reads all the green (rich) lights and a few in the orange (stoich), it used to read only like 3 green LEDS.

Now i have done the usual tune up stuff (plugs, wires, fuel filter, rotor, cap) however this didnt help. I am not throwing a CEL or anything. Also when im coming to a stop the RPMS dive down like the car is going to stall however it never does.

would the bad clutch cause the hesitation? the hesitation usually accures when i dont have the clutch in at all, but i dont know if it would cause my problem or not?

I cant figure it out, with no CELs, no smoke out the exhaust or anything.

could it be a clogged Catyltic (sp) converter or a O2 sensor or something......please help

Thanks

Without a CEL it's hard to tell.

Clogged cat
Clogged air filter
Dirty TB
Dirty Fuel Filter
Leaky Injector

Si's like yours are just now starting to get some miles on them so problems like you have, may not have occured yet to other peoples cars.

O2 sensor might be goign bad.

also check the connection and make sure still secured on the o2 sensor signal wire.

I don't trust Crap O' meter A/F ratio gauge. Those things are as accurate as Ms. Cleo after a pound of dank.

Catalylic converter should not be a problem as the readings that you get is from the primary o2 sensor.

wouldnt i be throwing a CEL if the primary O2 sensor is bad, the hesitation usually occurs from 4-5k rpms, then it all of a sudden it pulls strong again

hey, i had the EXACT same problem with my car. would u happen to have a aftermarket fuel pressure regulator on your car? ok, heres the deal.

my car used to lag when i barely had the gas in, but it felt like it was hesitating for liek a couple of seconds while driving. it only did this with my chipped out ecu, not with the stock ecu. it didnt throw any codes either.
well it turned out that i was just running too rich, i got a fuel pressure regulator and adjusted it to 32 psi (people on the board told me 42psi but my car started ******* up, so i went to pyr and he was like "you're running to rich, lower the pressure to 32 psi") and i was running to rich because i had fuel residue and **** in my muffler/tailpipe.

try this:
if you have an adjustable fpr, adjust it to 32-35 psi. if you dont have one, u might want to try to get one.
you say your air/fuel gauge stays in green (rich) and doesnt fluctuate between stoich and lean like it normally should. i think you may be experiencing the same problem with me. havent had any problems with it since then. let us know how it turns out.

well yes i have an air/fuel gauge, under 80% throttle all of the green LEDs and a couple orange LEDS light up as well.

I dont have a FPR, i did get a B&M FP Gauge that im gonna hook up this week end so i can see what its at now.

Can i take out the complete exhaust and clean it all out? i was also thinking of taking the TB and IM and cleaning them all out as well

check the water in you battery it might need some. unless it is a maintanance free battery. check the gap on your spark pluggs. maybe you need to time the car or adjust the valves. adding water to the battery and regaping the sparkplugs helped my sister's si when it had a similar problem. also get the complete distributer checked out. on my 96 dx i had just put cap and rotor and my car would do what your car does. But mine got to the point were the car would turn off and shake for like 10seconds before turning on completely. it turned out that my distributor went out. just some ideas. hopefully it helps a little

good luck

thanks for the reply every idea helps me pin-point the problem, it is the maintence free original battery, i'm thinking of getting the ignition timed again, because most people pretty much think the problem is centered around the ignition system

possibly a faulty or incorrectly adjusted sensor? tps, idle control, or something else on the intake side, or the o2 sensor. my bro's car had a similar problem. it was his tps.
