broke a bolt today, and now I can't drive the my car
I am so pissed today. I was swapping out my Si front sway bar for a gsr sway bar, and had to unbolt the one of the shift linkages. when I went to reinstall, I overtightened it, and now, the bolt head is gone but the rest of the bolt is still in the hole. If I try to drive, the shift linkage will pop out. Damn this sucks. I wanted to test out the new sway bars and Energy suspension bushings that I just got too.
Does anybody know a good way to take out the bolt? besides drilling it out?
I was thinking about ghetto-rigging something, but I am not happy with that.
Ideally what I would like to do, is drill a small hole, and insert a counter-clockwise screw so that the bolt will come out. But don't know if I can find something like that.

is it completely broken off inside or is it kind of broken off?
if it's completely gone, drilling it is the only way.

I dont know how big the bolt is and call me a crazy ****....but could you JBWELD the head of the bolt back on there, let it dry, and then screw it out?
I'm sure you could find a counter-clockwise screw at the hardware store.

If there's not enough of the broken bolt to get ahold of with some pliers, etc, there's a kit at Home Depot that consists of 3 different sized drill bits and three counter clockwise special bits. Drill a pilot hole down through the broken bit, then tap the special bit into the hole and GENTLY start to turn it counterclockwise; don't break the special bit off in the hole like I did. (If you do that, only a machine shop can save you.) I can't think of WTF it's called off the top of my head, but good luck finding the drill bit set, as well as removing the broken bolt.

I just broke one of my valve cover bolts like that yesterday. I think the bits are called EZ Outs or something unless there are better ones now. Anyway, good luck with your situation and I would highly suggest we buy torque wrenches to avoid the problem in the future.

Couldn't you grab a dremel and a small cutting disc and cut a slot for a screw driver?
Should work if there's enough of the bolt exposed, and the bolt is made of a strong enough metal.

I like the dremel I idea
It would be cool as hell if it worked. But I kinda doubt you get a big enough cut for the screwdriver head without cuttin some of the surrounding materials.

I checked to see if the dremel idea would work, but it is too far in. And, I couldn't handle not being able to drive, so I ghetto-rigged it, so that the shift linkage will stay in place. It is actually pretty good. Should hold up for a long time until some new pieces comes in, and I have more time to properly fix it. Couldn't find a counter clockwise screw either, so I boght the bolt extracter. Hopefully it will work.

I've gotta wait until Tuesday to fix mine because apparently no stores or junkyards have a 10mm x 5?in bolt for me to rig mine with. So I'm waiting on Honda to get the $6 bolt for me. There's also the small issue of the piece of the previous bolt still residing in my block. Oh, well. It's nice to see I'm not the only person with this problem so I don't feel like an idiot anymore.
