MSD External coil on 98 EK
Was thinking about doing a MSD coil set up. I have the Y8 V-tec motor and was wondering if it was really worth it? and if so should i used the little box coil or the cylinder looking coil? and also does NGK make one for it? Thanks guys!

The only worthwhile upgrade for a y8 is going to be a turbo or a new engine.
They really do not respond well to bolt ons. You could spend $1500 in the best exhaust, intake, tb, and header money could buy and you probably wouldn't notice much but a change in noise.

I have headers, exhaust, intake. Just bolt ons. Im actually getting my body in shape now but was thinking about doing this to dress the bay up a little bit too, but also wondering about preformance. Im not sure if i want to turbo the Y8 or B16 it like a Si. Its a 4 door and i got Si tails coming so i was thinkin doin a 4 door Si set up with B16a. or maybe LS but dont wanna lose Vtec lol. or B20 cuz i can get them dirt cheap. wats your opinion on the LS or B20 and what about them against a B16? i also remembered that AEM made a coil pack kit, and opinions on that. even though your saying stay OEM will either make a difference at all?

Don't bother. The stock ignition can support like 600hp and all the MSD coil will do is burn up the ICM faster. You would need a 6a digital ignition box in addition to the coil to have a reliable ignition again, and it would just be more parts, more connections and no gain.
If you want a good gain and the best bang for the buck, turbo or swap in a H or F series motor. You can build a D series, not make very much power. Build a B series, make around 200hp NA. A stock H22 is 200hp and can be swapped in with a QSD adapter kit for less than a GSR motor would cost. If it's your first swap, stay with a direct swap like the B series though. I should stress that, since the H and F series require some extra work.

Yea i dont plan on getting into H or F series yet lol i did the D15 swap that i got in it just cuz i needed a motor n money was a little tight at the time. But am thinking either B20b, B18b or B16a. Opinions on those.

Either turbo the D16Y8. Cheapest way to get about 220 to the wheels with stock internals.
Get a B18C1 and make it an N/A beast (expensive)

I know threads like thus keep getting made. Someone comes in here asking about some sweet mod they can put on their d series to make a bunch of hp. Then it turns into what swap they could possibly do and ask a bunch of questions about that when everything's in the FAQs
