Default motor swap years?

i have a 96 cx now and want a new motor. im just building a show car so it doesnt hafta have 300 whp or anything, just some power and ease of finding parts. i was thinking a y8 but i found a guy with a 94 si that floated a valve and he would sell the motor for like 500. what years would be alright for a swap? would a 94 motor work fine in a 96? please no flames on this. any help would be appreciated though

1) 94 Si's were d16z6
2) thats going from OBD2 to OBD1
3) you'd need some Del Sol Vtec parts

but its do-able.
