My initial reply would be to search.

But since I've had a good night, I'll tell you what I'd do with a grand and a cx hatch.

D16Z6 Swap ($300-400)
With a good clutch($200-$300),
Short shifter with poly bushings($50),
A decent exhaust, doesn't have to be a name brand or anything, just something that sounds decent with bigger piping.($250)
And just rig a sri. ($20 at the most.)

Or I'd just shop around, hit up wrecked car auctions, and find an Integra thats been totalled with a good motor, and just swap it. (Anywhere from $500 to $1000)

Although, its your $1000, so if I were you, I would read up a little bit, and then decide.

Another route you could always go would be to do a mini-me & than turbo it .
