Honda Del Sol, what to look for when buying?
I can't take driving my Taurus anymore I want something that's more sporty and fun to drive while I'm in school. I found one for sale locally, black, 5 spd, SOHC VTEC, 160K, $2950, is that a reasonable price? Is there anything in particular I should look out for as far as problem areas? I know to check to make sure the targa top doesn't leak or anything, and although 160K is high, the Taurus has 176K and I ream on it daily without any serious engine problems. Just wanted to see if anybody else out there knew of anything I should look for. Thanks
David

$2,950 for a del sol w/ 160k miles seems pretty fair to me. Those are pretty rare around where i live.

check for the beginnings of rust along the wheel wells.... the eg's had weather stripping or something along the edge of the wheel well and it collects moisture which leads to rust along there...

Not to jack the thread but I know you just got that fixed and I need to. Did you not reinstall the rubber there when they fixed it?

make sure its not burning any oil, maybe a leakdown test if you want to get that into it, also check the front end to make sure it doesn't need a ton of work(tie rods, ball joints). If it does you can get him to knock off some money. It sounds like a pretty fair deal to me.plus its a great car

Nope, didnt reinstall the rubber.... wouldnt that kinda defeat the purpose of getting it fixed?

Re: (Slammd Sol)
I'm thinking of trading in my Taurus too, maybe that'll knock off oh...300 bucks
Seriously though, I think it's a hell of a deal, I'm going to take a look at it tomorrow and see if it's all it's cracked up to be. I emailed the guy, he told me it needs new pads and a muffler, but he had pads for it. I figure I can get an ES muffler or something for the time being, it's just going to be a DD.
Forgot to add it's a dealership, so I don't know if they'll let me do a leakdown test and all that jazz. Where should I look for oil leakage? Just around the oil pan/plug or should I look on the head as well?
Thanks for the info on the carfax, I'll be sure to do that as well. And thanks for all the extra info, hopefully all will be well and I can join the Honda family again

Re: Honda Del Sol, what to look for when buying? (eg1R)
Well I don't think it's what I'm looking for. Checked it out today, body was kinda rough. All the window trim had paint flaking, there was a large amount of rust on the rear passenger quarter, driver quarter had a 1" dent and some deep scratches, rear bumper was spider-webbed, overall I just wasn't feeling the car, so I'm still in search.
If ANYBODY know's where I could find a Del Sol in decent shape for 3K or less please let me know!
