Hello, both of my rear pannels on my 92 cx have rusted through. I am looking into getting some new ones. I was told to go and check out hondaautomotiveparts.com . Well What they show doesnt look right. On my car the pannel looks like it starts out by the hatch and goes all the way to the front of the windshield. I am just dumb or is their diagram wrong...

So I guess where does the rear quarterpannel end on my car and is that site right?

might have to weld them where they stop...no need to replace the whole piece...

hah never thought of it like that... do you think honda welded the two pieces together when they made the car...then the diagram the site has makes some sense.

anyways exactly what needs to be replaced? if the rear panels are interchangeable throughout 92-95 hatches then you can save a lot of money by getting them from the junkyard.

thats what I was thinking but first off I have never in wisconsin seen a eg that didnt have rusted through quater pannels... and second if those two pieces are welded how the hell would I get it off???

oh yah and the very back of the quarter pannel is rusted all the way through... Iam just thinking If Iam gonna spend several grand on new paint I might as well just get new quarter pannels so the damn rust doesnt come back

your answer is in front of you....

buy the part from the diagram, take it to a body shop and have them weld it in place, then have them spray the car with fresh paint.

it doesnt take rocket science to figure that out

i was a body man so listen to me. the roof, rear quarter, and pillars are separate pieces welded together at the factory. on some cars, you can grind away the paint and see where the weld is bronze. looks like theres gold in them thar panels!but you just cut it off, and weld on the new one. be sure to cover everything in primer or the problem will come back.

I am a body man and depending on the amout of rust you can either replace the rear but doing some fabricating, or you can have it fiberglassed, and smoother with body filler. The fiberglass route is definitely the least expensive, which is what I perfer people to do anyway. Trying to swap the whole panel gets expensive you get to replacing all the gaskets around the window and all kinds of weird ****. Bottom line JUST PATCH IT.

but will it last. I am worried about next winter here in wisconsin and what it would to do it if I only patched it. Why do you perfer the fiberglass method and how long do you think it would last(if taken care of) In wisconsin winters...

im sure he likes fiberglass patch due to its easier, and cheaper, you can also do a simpler job as well without taking the whole thing off

i have the same dam problem.. i stayin milwaukee by the way fell fre to hit me up on IM.. anyway this past summer when i got my hatch i just grinder and filled the crap out of it.... but still that browm **** still came back by now.. i woldnt mind figuring this problem out with someone locally in wisconsin... i.e. fabing something or some cure to this shiiit

only thing is if I grinded the all the rust away I couldnt weld a piece of metal to look the same... the rust is at the very edge of the pannel and is about 4 inches round....should I just take it to a body shope and have them do it?

i stay on the south.. by the airport.... its gonna come back sooner or later... i want to try and cut out panel and weld a new one in...... the rear sections are the only thigs i havent finished yet...
