Default High idling during stop

I got an 96 Civic Auto
no swaps, no CEL, nada
Completely stock

Whenever I start my car, it idles high, than goes normal, than high again

Whenever I park my car, it idles high and stays there

anyone know the issue?

3 weeks ago, I had a blown HG.. got a local shop to fix it for me. I can't remember if it did that before, but I doubt it. \

Anyone got suggestions on what it is?

Try cleaning your idle air control valve...even though that should throw a code. Also check for any vaccum leaks.

Second on the vacuum leaks, if the car was apart its a high possibility. You can check with starting fluid. when you spray it on the area with the leak your idle will go up for a sec.

Personally I would take it back to the shop and tell them to fcking fix it

well i did take it back to the shop.. but i might not want too.. cuz i left the shop with my car running, but.. the drivers head light didn't work and my dipstick tube was out of the guiding of the timing belt covers

and i took it 2 times for 2 problems that they more than likely caused, so a 3rd time.. im kinda iffy, even though a lot of my friends and family go to them all the time

On ur intake manifold adjust the screw thats like right next to the with a flat head while ur car is on, set it to like 900rpm, atleast that what i have it set too, and its fine! THE GREEN CIRCLE IS THE IDLE ADJUST SCREW

I agree except fot the shop part. Check it with starting fluid/brake clean/carb cleaner. Thorougly spray down the intake manifold, all vacuum lines, and throttle body. DO NOT spray the alternator.

You can alternatively just run a small propane torch (with the gas on a little but no flame) slowly over all of the vacuum lines. If the idle goes up for a moment you know that the area being tested has a leak.

you need to check for vacuum leaks, it sounds like you have one.

Vacuum lines look kinda like coolant lines but have no coolant in them. Black tubes of varying diamante that go to places where coolant is not wanted. Like the break booster and the air intake. They are smaller than the big radiator hoses.

it may not even be a vacuum line. Since they had the car appart for the head gasket it could be an intake manifold gasket etc. Who knows what all they took off

they would have to be pretty dumb to separate the head from the intake manifold.
