Default HELP VTEC NOT WORKING!!!

like the title say my vtec is not kicking in on my gsr swap. i know it's not the ecu because i run 12 volts straight to the vtec solenoid and i can hear a *little* click sound but engine still runs the same which only means that the vtec is not engage (if the vtec engage at idle it will make the car run like it's miss fire and want to die right) correct me if i am wrong. so whats the problem here???? i took off the middle cam caps and verified there's the pin and o ring in there but i dont want to take the head off to check the other pin and o ring. just want to see any more obvious problems before i tare the head off.
bad vtec solenoid can cause this? i can hear alittle click but not strong click when i put 12 volt to it

Check your oil
Low oil pressure will cause the ecu not to send the signal out to the solenoid.
Do you have an oil pressure gauge?

like i stated i put 12 volts to the vtec solenoid that means the ecu have nothing to do with the vtec. the vtec should engage when the 12 volt apply to the solenoid.

Yes it should but I sure as hell would not be doing that **** at idle
So you drive around and at 5k or so you put 12 volts to the wire and what happens? Any sounds?

i did it at idle because i want to see if the vtec will actually engage or not but i guess not. any way i will replace the vtec solenoid first to see if it's that problem.

first off, vtec doesn't work until a certain speed, so rewire it to your ecu. Second, do you have any cels? Third, how much white smoke. White smoke usually means blown headgasket, which would in turn lower your oil pressure, and cause no vtec. Not to mention if your headgasket is bad, the last thing you need to do is rev that motor and heat it up. Are you having temp probs too?

You ******* ricer. Take VTEC off a switch it doesnt work like that. If you want to break it however knock yourself out and do it that way.

This is what you do, if you dont listen to me like you werent listening to White Smoke then this thread should be locked due to your stupidity.

Now wire VTEC to the ecu
Then Check your oil level
If you are infact blowing white (or whitish blue) then think about replacing the head gasket.
and check your oil
check your oil
check your oil

oh did i mention check your oil? well do that too.

ok guys you guys are misunderstand me. my vtec is hook up to my ecu. and when i say (white smoke) that's the guy that reply to my tread my car does not SMOKE at all. the only reason i jump the vtec solenoid with 12 volt is because my turner say my vtec is not working.

DO YOU HAVE AN OIL PRESSURE GAUGE?
You actually need the oil pressure to switch to the vtec cam! If you have your dummy light unplugged then you could have NO oil pressure and thats why your not switching to the vtec cam. The solenoid just opens up a small path for the oil. Did you remove the pan to tap it for the return?

you never said if you had any cel's (like 22 for example). I wouldn't worry so much about the solenoid, and focus more on oil pressure and/or oil pressure switch.

Make a VTEC light and see if VTEC comes on. sounds to me if everything is working fine, no CEL and oil is good then nothing is wrong and its all in your head.

dont use a button activated VTEC switch. they are always more trouble then they are worth and never work correctly. a lot of things haver to happen for v tec to work and just sending 12 volts to the solenoid is not sufficient. You need oil pressure, operating temps, a certain speed, certain rpm, you have to be in gear (vtec wont work in nuetral and i dont know why u would try to activate it at idle) ect. Just wire it up like OEM and most likely all your problems will go away. Also check your head gasket like stated before bc u might not have enough oil pressure

Congrats your oil is clean..... and full... bravo

Warm the pig up (its gotta be reading on your temp gauge) and take it for a rip in second gear all the way to about 7k rpm

If somethings wrong then your ecu will (should) throw a code... @ around 7k, if it doesn't engage or throw a code, i'd look into borrowing a buddies ECU for a rip....

Also, a poor harness ground (yes its my favorite fix, for swap vtec issues) will cause random results... Check your grounds.

and please don't ever complain about your vtec if you have a headgasket issue....
