Default HELP with my vtec

Alright guys. my engile light came on and i am throwing a code 17.(vss speed sensor). Will that cause me not to hit vtec?my spedometer does not work but my car still runs fine. The funny thing is my car makes a squeeking sound (it's a belt under the hood), when this happens i am able to hit vtec. what do you guys suggest i do? can a alternator have anything to do with this?thanks alot.

Check your oil level.

Check that your VTEC solenoid is engaging.

Fix your VSS.

Fix that squealing noise.

Get back to us.

BTW, what engine are you running?

why not find out whats wrong before you go replacing the sensor?

the connector could be dirty, thats all.

troubleshoot the problem, dont throw parts at it.

The VTEC solenoid looks like this:

You need to fix problems, especially when regarding CEL issues, before coming to a conclusion that something doesn't work. Most of the time, when something is not working properly, other things don't work properly.
