Default help with cam install

me and my friend are installing a zex 59300 cam in his y8. We got the cam off and noticed we need a "cam key" I think is what its called to put in the groove on the new cam and to slide into the gear. Where do we get one of these?

You can get one from any adujstable cam gear. Also, since that cam is for the Z6 and not the Y8 you will need a gear to advance it 5 degrees so it is in its ) degree position. Go grab a skunk 2 gear.

we do have a skunk2 gear, but we need a key to align the gear onto the cam...you know the one that goes in the groove. I thought that there was one on the stock cam gear that comes off, but it seems that the notch is built into the gear so i guess I need to go buy a new one?

try a key from a b series- my str camgear didnt come with a key and i called them and they said to use one from a b series cause the stock d16 camgear has the key built right into it- this is on a skunk2 cam also. it might not be right but it very well could work.

My skunk2 gear came with the woodruf key. You should call Skunk2 and tell them, I'm sure they'd send you the key.

also make sure you dont use an impact to tighten the gear, ive seen at least 3 cams break from ppl doing this, one was a zex cam, one was june and the other was toda, some exp. *** mistakes for being to lazy to tighten it the proper way.

You need an adjustable cam gear. my friend got that same cam for his y8, but didn't realize it was designed for the z6. You'll have to advance the timing, alot.
