i was thinking water pump too...cause the heat does warm up almost instantly if i rev it up to about 2000rpm. does that make sense? i rebuilt my motor about 6000mi ago with a new water pump...do you guys think it might have gone poo-poo already? thanks for the replys. its cold in va.

What you are describing is usually a case of a blocked heater core. They can get gummed up inside and the pump won't be able to flow well enough at idle to keep it supplied with nice hot antifreeze. Does honda run a block off valve in the heater core lines? You might want to look at that too. What I like to do is take the heater lines off, then take a garden hose and blow the heater core out.
I doubt it is the water pump. In all the years I've worked in shops and on the side I have only seen 1 water pump actually eat the blades up and cause a low flow situation.

heater core jobs are good times,..involves taking off the whole ******* dash,..its kinda of a pain in the ***,..not hard at all,.just time consuming

sound like the heater core, if it gone it will not hold the pressure at idle and get cold, but when you drive the hot coolent flows and you get minimal heat right?
