water pump?
hey guys i have a 2000 civic SiR DOHC VTEC
now i changed the rad and thermostat last week, after installing and bleeding the system i capped it up and tested it out seemed fine. Couple of days later driving to work within five mins of driving engine temp went to half so pull over to check and noticed that the rad hoses were very stiff and upper one was hot as hell and the lower one was cold??? so next day changed thermostat again but it still does the same thing. Don't notice a leak temp dosn't go over half but warms up very fast 5 mins even in this cold weather? no matter how much i run car with heater on cap off to bleed off any air even tried parking on a hill to push up air but nothing. could it be water pump? or thermostat again? sorry for the essay guys but i'm stuck. (both thermostats were aftermarket and so was the rad only thing is that the hoses are a little bigger than the rad fitting but are on tight) sorry guys i'm new at this and any help will be great
thanks
Gary

how many K on the motor?
also when u say aftermarket t-stat.. did u get it from canadian tire or its a performance t-stat?
if its just a aftermarket one from canadian then i would say go to pick one up from honda..

Like that will make a difference...a new t-stat is good regardless if it's from Canadian tire or honda.
killer_ssn, if you replaced the thermostat, rad cap, rad, go take the car into a shop and have them do a pressure coolant test and it might state if the coolant is leaking from a certain spot.
Also, when you fill coolant, make sure the car is turned on with the full heating up btw
if no small leaks from any of the hoses, I'd go after the water pump

sometimes I've heard that if the head can be warped then it will cause overheating, but then you'd have a milky mixture in your coolant/oil.
do a compression and leak down test and check back with the results
