Default Heat not working

I have a 1999 Civic ex coupe, and when i turn the temp to heat, there is no heat coming out, its just air. AC blows cold and fan works fine, just no hot air, can anyone help me with this? I searched other places and it could be heater core? my coolant level is at max also. Please give me some advice because its starting to get cold in Kansas City. Thanks

See if the cable is connected to the climate control.

I just got it checked out and the mechanic said the cable that controlled the flow of air was loose and not moving all the way open and shut, so he unhooked it and moved the flow to max, and heat got a little hotter, but still not as hot as it should be

Is the coolant level low in either the radiator or reservoir?

Have you changed the thermostat? If so maybe someone put to cold a temp, or no thermostat at all. Also in the HVAC ducts there are doors that open and close. One controls hot air that comes in. If the actuator controlling it has gone bad it will not allow the door to open. The actuator is most likely electronic, but could be vaccum controlled. If vaccum controlled see if you hear any vaccum leaks. Also the lever that opens and closes the door could have broken or came loose. Make sure if its attached that there is nothing preventing the door from opening all the way.
