Re: got a oill pressure gauge (95jeremie)
and a steel hose will give you a more accurate reading... for the most part it won't be that big of a difference unless the hose is like 10 feet long

No, you don't take off the oil filter. You have to take out the oil pressure sensor and install a t-fitting in it's place. Then you need to screw the fitting for the gauge in one side of the t-fitting, and the oil pressure sensor in the other side.

yeah, you can use a sandwich (i like tuna)
If you do decide to use the pressure sender hole, you should attach a braided line from the block, with slack, and then T it later, so there is no stress on the fitting (they break). From there, just run it to the gauge or the e- sender. (since you said plastic Im assuming its a mechanical guage.....mm-mm hot oil being pumped into the interior)

Re: got a oill pressure gauge (cjmitthun)
you dont even have to plug the stock oil sensor back up, its useless.
your oil light will only come on if there is less then 5psi of oil in your motor, by that time its too late.

Okay, enough with all the misinformation in this thread.
1.) yes, you can T off of the stock oil pressure sensor position, but you don't need to concern yourself with that annoyance if you don't want to.
2.) under your distributor, there are a couple hex-plugs that lead to the oil passage and the coolant jacket. If you unscrew the oil passage one you can mount your gauge pickup there and it will give you a fine reading for the life of the car.
I have an Autometer Ultralight mechanical oil pressure gauge and this is how I have mine set up. It's been working fine for two years now. Be careful when you screw the nylon line in using the farrel as it only crushes properly one time.
