Finding TDC on my d16 need suggestions!
I am getting ready to put my newly rebuilt head back on my block and I want to make sure I have zero timing issues when done. Right now I have the crank pully off and the notch on the crank is at a slight angle to the left and #1 and #4 pistons are flush with the top of the cylinders. I tried not to let the crank turn when removing the pulley bolt, but I am unsure if it did or not. the manual I am using shows a slight angle for the notch in a photo, but in a drawing it shows the notch completely centered pointing up. Where is TDC??
On another note...is there anything I need to do (besides cleaning the deck and head surfaces) before I install my new Honda OEM head gasket? Someone on here mentioned copper spray? I am unsure about that!
Thanks for you input!

Top Dead Center is just where it sounds like it is...
You want to turn the crank till 1 and 4 are at the top... The best way to do it for accuracy is to use a timing wheel but it's not neccisary by any stretch..
just turn it past tdc (using the 1 and 4 pistons as reference) and then back it up till it's RIGHT in the middle of going up and down...
A bunch of mechanics I know just put a a screwdriver or whatever on top of the piston and turn the crank back and forth till they can see it's not going up or down.

Thanks man, thats what I was going to try. I just wanted to make sure that was an acceptable way of doing it.
