i want to wash my engine this weekend... i just wanted to know whats the best product to use so i can clean up my engine bay? what do you guys use?

on engine bay: WD-40 with a rag after soap and water, with a rinse and dry. Or just use SIMPLE GREEN. There are a million products out there to use..

i know there are a lot of products but i just wanna know what is preferred by most people so i dont waste my money on something that doesnt do the job as well as the other products... but thanks i gotta try that

I have about $100 worth of car products for my vehicle.. But WD-40 works extremely well after you've washed the car with a soapy rag or towel and then gently rinsed it. Or you can use Simple Green.

[B]I personally use WD-40 with a rag, it stops things from squeaking, rusting and gives a better shine than most $10 car cleaner cans.. Just don't be dumb and put it on your rubber/radiator hoses or the block/header.

WD-40 with a clean rag worked for me. But be prepared to scrub hard.

First tho, I'd use a hard plastic bristled brush and scrub with soap and water / use a tooth brush if you have clearance issues.

go with simple green and let it soak for a bit - just be sure the engine is cold even better after sitting overnight and load the engine bay down - scrub where you can and spray it down.

I wouldn't recommend cleaning your engine bay while the car is off.

I used simple green's gray bottle. I think it's called prof.series. you mix it 50/50 with water. It's strong. I don't even have to scrub.

I let the car idle, spray down with simple green , let it soak for about 2 minutes, rinse off, repeat.

wait 5 minutes.


Then I used this can called "CD-2" engine detailer. I have to order it online by the case b/c the local parts stores stopped carrying it. it's great and lasts a long time. after spraying on the detailer, I lower the hood for 10 minutes to let the detailer "bake" and let excess water dry off.

Engine degreaser and a pressure washer, then some water based tire shine. If you get a strong enough engine degreaser all you have to do is spray it on and wait a couple minutes, then pressure wash it off. The spray on water based tire shine is just to make it purdy

This was my S2000 with 80,000 daily driven miles.

I used CD2 engine cleaner and detailer. Spray the cleaner on a warm (not hot) engine, let it sit for 3-4 minutes, rinse it off (I just spray it, be easy by the intake and alternator), let it dry, hit it with the detailer. If CD2 isn't available, I'll use Gunk engine degreaser and WD-40 for metal, tire shine for plastics.

if you have alot of oil/dirt/grime on your motor and tranny i found that the oven cleaner you can get at the dollar store works great, then just rinse it off
