Electrical Autometer Oil Pressure gauge grounding question...
Ok I did a search first...and have one last question...here is a little history on my gauge...I ran like everyone does a ss line from the block to the sender and fixed the sender to the firewall the gauge would read fine but periodicly bounce from 65 to 75PSI so I thought that it was not getting enough oil because the sender was too high...so I tried various new locations and the needle would bounce around like from 25 to 75 like there was a bad connection...tried a new location and now it won't read above 25psi driving and just above 0 at idle...now through my search I determined or think it's a grounding problem...here is my theory when it was bolted to the firewal it was grounded because it was directly against the body...but it was a poor ground because under acceleration could rattle a little bit and the needle bouncing was a cause of the sender bouncing away from the firewall the location it is in now it is near NO grounds...and this is what is causing it to not read above 25psi...does this make sense???
Now for grounding it....for those of you who's gauge works properly how did you ground it..can I run a ground from the post on the sender(the one where the sender wire goes to the gauge) and bolt that ground to the chassis? and if I can't put the ground in the same location as the sender wire how do I go about grounding it?

Anything I ground I attempt to attach to a ground wire in the car already.
I.E. my Foglights are ground to the battery ground by running a line all the way to it.

Yeah I think I worded the question wrong...I know where to ground it to..but where do I attach the ground wire to the sender? Because there is no specific ground location on the sender, but the sender needs to be grounded the only place to actually attach it to the sender is the post that you attach the sender wire to, can you use this or do you need to fasten it to the sender body somehow?

I have no idea. But, you might be able to call Autometer and they should be nice enough to tell you.

This is where it was originally(ignore the boot full of axle grease all over my firewall a boot blew on me the day before I took this pic)

Auto Meter oil pressure sender......
The housing is grounded to the engine crankcase if you were to thread it into the OEM location. So for your mounting choice, you need to ground the sender housing. There will not be a connection on the housing to run a wire to so think of something creative. Maybe instead of that black zip tie bracket you have used so far, you could come up with a steel mount that can be grounded to the chassis. Just an idea.

Why not just solder a 18 gauge wire to the housing itself????
Better be a KILLER iron though.
Scrape the plating off also.
Just like adding a capacitor to little RC car motors.

I thought about that but it would take a better iron than I have to get the housing hot enough to take to the soldering.
