Is this an early warning sign?
Hi guys, I have a 92 Civic LX, stock. I've had it for like 2 or 3 years (can't remember) and have had no problems apart from my ECU dying which I replaced with a used one and all was well. It turns good now, doesn't burn oil, no problems etc.
However, during the past week, two of the times that I tried to start it it died on me right away. All the other times it was fine, but twice, I started it and it died like immediately, RPMs shot up to idle and then right back to 0. I then re started it and all was well. Car was warm both times after a trip to the store (so not a cold start). It might just be me not paying attention and letting go of the key too soon while it was cranking, but honestly, I've had it for a long time and this has never happened to me before, and now it happened twice in a week.
So, is it just me, or could this be an early warning sign that something is on its way out? I don't want to get stranded Thanks!

Re: Is this an early warning sign?
I had about the same issue.... ended up gradually getting worse and was my ignition switch going out. The one that screws in behind the key tumbler assembly. I would try to start the car and when it goes to the run spot move it a minor amount and see if that cases the car to shut off the contacts on the ignition seem to wear out over time.

I don't know about fifth gens, but at least some years of sixth gens had ignition switch issues where the contacts would wear prematurely. I think the have replacements that don't have the issue. There was a TSB out about it.
